gozar #1 Posted November 1, 2015 Today I thought I'd throw Protracker STe onto my Mega STe and play around with it. When I start it up, it complains about no DMA for sound, which I thought was odd. I then went to the Control Panel, Sound Setup, and it says No Stereo Available. Where should I start troubleshooting?
ataricrypt #2 Posted November 2, 2015 I've a Mega STe also and I had to try this now! Sure, it seems fine as I can use pro tracker or similar BUT the sound CPX accessory doesn't work. Says I've no dma... I'm confused! TBH, I don't think I've ever had that activated until your post. So thanks!
gozar #3 Posted November 2, 2015 Are you using Protracker STe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ataricrypt #4 Posted November 3, 2015 Yep, Pro Tracker STe and it works too. I can adjust the Bass / Treble so it's DMA.. not that my mono monitor helps any lol The sound cpx doesn't wanna know. Perhaps it's just incompatible with the Mega? Or maybe there's a newer one? Or maybe I've just got the wrong one? :/ dunno.. fwiw - Dead Hackers have others listed : http://dhs.nu/files.php?t=digieditor
gozar #5 Posted November 3, 2015 I'll download some of those other ones and try them out, thanks for the link! Maybe the copy of Protracker STe that I downloaded doesn't like my Mega STe. :-( It's weird that it says no dma available. ataricrypt #6 Posted November 3, 2015 I think you'll be okay once you download one from here.. ( fwiw, I downloaded this Equinox Protracker STe ) I'd just like to know why the Sound CPX doesn't work! Bugging me now :/
Zogging Hell #7 Posted November 3, 2015 Perhaps the sound cpx is Falcon only, I seem to remember I got a copy of it with my Falcon. The Window colours cpx in the screen shot on ataricrypt's post is Falcon only is it not? Or at least if it works on the STe it can't have much functionality seeing its for TOS 4.04's AES.
ataricrypt #8 Posted November 3, 2015 yeah I can set various window colours for the arrows, bars, etc, etc.. not much to do in 4 colour medium resolution however But it works. Good point with the CPX being Falcon. Perhaps that's where my memory is getting confused as I (sniff) had a Falcon in the 90s so maybe that's how I remember it. Hmm... Zogging Hell #9 Posted November 4, 2015 Ah right, didn't know that (about Window Colour), must able to get some serious colour clash on an ST with that running
ataricrypt #10 Posted November 4, 2015 Yeah it's like a weird colour-clash 70s theme now on my ST desktop. Funky or perhaps just wrong

Also - have you tried Paula? This is another that doesn't work on my Mega STe and I don't know why http://www.atarimania.com/utility-atari-st-paula_29702.html
ataricrypt #12 Posted December 22, 2015 Today I thought I'd throw Protracker STe onto my Mega STe and play around with it. When I start it up, it complains about no DMA for sound, which I thought was odd. I then went to the Control Panel, Sound Setup, and it says No Stereo Available. Where should I start troubleshooting? Booted up the Mega STE (from cold and no floppy in the drive so there's nothing in RAM from Auto folder, ACCs, etc) Loaded up SysInfo.PRG and it says my STE has no DMA Sound. So, this means Paula, Pro Tracker, Sound.CPX and now SysInfo cannot seem to recognise the computers DMA sound hardware. Even though all other apps, games and demos work fine and play stereo music fine... This is driving me nuts!
ParanoidLittleMan #13 Posted December 23, 2015 Just to clarify: setting bass, treble is not done in DMA chip - it is in Microwire chip (which is not present in Falcon btw.) You will get on both channels output from Yamaha soundchip - split done via Microwire chip too. To be sure that your STE DMA audio is OK should run some game what uses it for sure. Here is a list: http://atari.8bitchip.info/steandg.html Do test with STE only games, otherwise may have sound, but via Yamaha chip. If have UltraSatan or some other Flash card adapter may try this: http://atari.8bitchip.info/SCRSH/xen2s.html
