thetallguy24 #1 Posted November 1, 2015 I just got the Atari 7800 of Xenophobe and its not too bad. Are there any versions any of you consider superior to the 7800 version? I'm not quite sure how many ports there are out there
+atari2600land #2 Posted November 1, 2015 There's one for the 2600. I don't know how good it is since it rolls on my TV unless I play it on my flat screen.
zylon #3 Posted November 2, 2015 The Lynx one was good. C64 version ok, and NES version poor IMHO.

zylon #5 Posted November 2, 2015 I'd say Lynx was better and C64 about the same
Lentzquest #6 Posted November 9, 2015 Honestly the only really good version is the arcade/mame. It's also on one of the Midway Arcade Treasure installments, but I haven't personally tried that one.
mbd30 #7 Posted November 9, 2015 Me and my friends were fans of the arcade game. It's one of those in-between arcade games that was ported to systems that weren't powerful enough to do it justice, and never got a proper 16-bit console port.
+save2600 #8 Posted November 9, 2015 Xenophobe is a cool little game for what it is. I have both the 2600 and 7800 versions. Agree that the arcade/MAME or Midway compilations are the way to go though. There's a lot more animation to the aliens as well as a better variety of them too. Backgrounds are more detailed and the gameplay is tighter. Understandable on the 2600, but the 7800 version is plagued by the 'up to jump' thing, which sucks. Besides the clunky controls which has you needlessly running into things, be nice if the 7800 version could be updated/hacked with better graphics, colors and animations. As it is, not a terrible game, just needs a little bit of polishing. The 2600 version plays well enough and is impressive considering the system. Dual ports like this though are funny. Nothing like competing against yourself, eh Atari? Surprised the 2600 box doesn't advertise that it also works with the 7800. Oh wait, it does! There's also a version for the NES, but am not too familiar with it.
BassGuitari #9 Posted November 9, 2015 ...be nice if the 7800 version could be updated/hacked with better graphics, colors and animations. ... I'd love a hack that turns the puffer gun (or whatever it's called) into a flamethrower.
Nutsy Doodleheimer #10 Posted November 12, 2015 I have it on Midway Arcade Treasures and on Mame for the modded xbox along with the roms for the 2600, 7800, and NES. As for the physical cart I only own it on the NES. As for the best version I have to go with the arcade/mame. The 7800 versions controllers are a bit too complicating for my liking.
