Iwantgames:) #1 Posted November 4, 2015 This might have already been asked I searched but didn't find anything tho OK I found this set of instructions on harmlesslion TI 32k Mod.pdf Is there any cons to this mod? Im going to get a 2nd TI I want to put a F18A and this mod in it to play cartridge games and have my current setup for floppy games and nvr have to take the XB 2.7 out so would this mod be good for my needs?
Omega-TI #2 Posted November 4, 2015 Is there any cons to this mod? Only one that I can think of. It probably scares the living s___ out of people with 'soldering iron phobia'. Some people simply cannot imagine going to town on their prized classic computer like that. YES, it sounds like a great mod turning a TI into a dedicated stand-alone gaming console... especially with all these great programs coming out... not to mention these awesome compilations. Iwantgames:) #3 Posted November 4, 2015 Well I just secured 2 CIB TI's off eBay so I should be modding one and might leave the other stock
Tursi #4 Posted November 4, 2015 I designed that mod because I didn't want to mess around with all the wires in the 16-bit 32k mod, and I wrote the PDF because I wanted to document HOW it works, something that the older mod always bugged me about. I've been running it continuously for 4 or 5 years. The only con I know of is it's an 8-bit mod which offers no speed advantage over the external 32k mod. The famous 16-bit 32k mods allow you to disable the wait states on the 32k space. (Mind you, Theirry Nouspikel shows that you can disable wait states with 8-bit 32k expansions, too, some day I need to try that against my mod ).
Iwantgames:) #5 Posted November 5, 2015 So does it basically do the same as the 32k in my PEB? I don't need nothing fancy just functional
Shift838 #6 Posted November 5, 2015 yes it does the same thing but... the PEB knocks it down to 8 bit and I think the MOD with it being in the console stays 16bit.. I could be wrong though.

Iwantgames:) #8 Posted November 5, 2015 Sweet well I'm gonna do this mod to at least one of these 2 TIs I got coming
+RXB #9 Posted November 5, 2015 Better idea is the SAMS 1 Meg in Console.
RickyDean #10 Posted November 5, 2015 Can that be done on a Zeno board?
jedimatt42 #11 Posted November 5, 2015 Better idea is the SAMS 1 Meg in Console. Does a recipe for that exist? Or is that still to be designed? [email protected]
Iwantgames:) #12 Posted November 5, 2015 Better idea is the SAMS 1 Meg in Console. How is that done? Why is it better?
gregallenwarner #13 Posted November 5, 2015 How is that done? With a 74LS612 memory mapper. See this page for the schematics: http://www.unige.ch/medecine/nouspikel/ti99/superams.htm Why is it better? 1 MB > 32 KB

+RXB #15 Posted November 6, 2015 How is that done? Why is it better? Well let me see...1000K of RAM memory vs 32K?
jedimatt42 #16 Posted November 6, 2015 With a 74LS612 memory mapper. See this page for the schematics: http://www.unige.ch/medecine/nouspikel/ti99/superams.htm I am specifically curious if anyone has ever adapted that to in console? Or is there still an opportunity there?
Willsy #17 Posted November 6, 2015 If it were put in a console it would need a switch to enable/disable RAM in the 8K area at >2000 and the 24K area at >A000 as some cards that you might put in a PEB (i.e. RAM disks) supply that RAM.
Tursi #18 Posted November 6, 2015 I don't know about others, but by default the Horizon does not provide memory in the 32k RAM area -- any card that does would not be compatible with the TI 32k either.
+RXB #19 Posted November 6, 2015 I have the SAMS and never missed the 32K card or any other 32K access.1 Meg of RAM has more value than any 32K does.
Tursi #20 Posted November 6, 2015 I haven't built a 1MB AMS replacement, I built a 32k mod.
globeron #21 Posted November 8, 2015 I haven't built a 1MB AMS replacement, I built a 32k mod. I want to built this 32K mod. so that the 2048K games module (to make a game console for my kid) and Extended Basic v2.7 can work without the Nano-Peb (but I have two left hands and still struggling to get the USB-Joystick adapter to work, probably bad soldering)
Davvel #22 Posted December 5, 2015 My mod is 8 bit, just like the external 32k, yes. Tursi, So if I want to purchase the XB 2.7 which contains some tools that require 32K RAM to work, would purchasing a nanoPeb solve the problem without having to upgrade the TI with an internal Modification? globeron #23 Posted December 5, 2015 Tursi, So if I want to purchase the XB 2.7 which contains some tools that require 32K RAM to work, would purchasing a nanoPeb solve the problem without having to upgrade the TI with an internal Modification? Yes it does work. I am using it. Difficult part is to get/find a nano-PEB. Also use the right firmware on the XB 2.7 (I am using the version where the speech has been added that time when plugging in the XB 2.7) I have not checked on later versions. Davvel #24 Posted December 5, 2015 Thanks Globeron, I will purchase a nanopeb first and then buy the XB 2.7. My final aim is to write and burn my own cartridges. Thanks.
