jhd
These titles perhaps push the definition a bit, but I would add: Dragonstomper Secret Quest Both of these games involve collecting/using various weapons and supplies.

dark-aleph
multi-screen item fetching games for the Atari 2600 Fathom, Pitfall I and II, Crypts of Chaos, Secret Quest, Dark Chambers, Ghost Manor, Ghostbusters and Sneak n Peek. Sneak 'n Peek!? Are you calling player two an 'item' !!! To paraphrase The Prisoner, "I am not an item! I am a free man!" I suppose two people could be an item; but a one-person item leads to blindness... I'd add Wing War, Ature (homebrew) and Escape from the Mind Master (supercharger) to the list. 3 really outstanding adventure games.
LynxVGL
Riddle of the Sphinx by Imagic too. Multi screen scrolling, not paging.
+Nathan Strum
Almost forgot the homebrew Dark Mage, if you count text adventures (and really... it's a pretty cool throwback to Zork and the like).
