Is Professor Pac-Man for 2600 Possible?

Recommended Posts

I know nothing about programming, but I've read that, back in the day, you couldn't put much text in games. Prof Pac-Man has a lot of text as each problem has a sentence to ask the question. With technology as it is now, though, is a game with a lot of text like Prof Pac-Man possible? Could Prof Pac-Man be made into a 2600 game?

I don't think the text would be too much of a problem, there are nice 13+ character text routines, but the game uses so many complex bitmapped graphics it would have to be watered down or really flickery I'd say.

Though some of the other guys who can work their magic may say otherwise. I'd probably say the A8 or 5200 would be a better choice.

But keep in mind that this will only work with a Harmony/Melody cartridge, not a plain (bankswitching) rom.

I don't have any source for it on my machine, so I think I converted it to DPC+ by stepping thru the code in Stella.

Thanks, but I to tend to do that.
