Shortened version of Kaz Kompo rules:

  1. The contest is open to all games released in year 2014 for the Atari 8-bit computers. No matter whether they are commercial or freeware games, awarded in other contests or not, whether they require expansion or not, etc. Important is that they became publicly available between January 1st and December 31st 2014. If something is missing on the list - let know to Xeen.
  2. You can vote by adding your comment in this thread or on AtariOnline.pl or by sending an email to Xeen (mcora @ tlen . pl). All the votes (nickname + given points) will be published with the announcement of the voting results.
  3. The authors and co-authors of the games participating in the contest may vote for their own works.
  4. Vote for up to 10 games, specifying their order. The points will be given as follows: 1st place - 10 points, 2nd place - 9 points, ... , 10th place - 1 point. It is allowed to vote for less than 10 games, by not specifying some of the places.
  5. The voting ends on midnight of December 20th/21st, 2015.
  6. Several prizes will be drawn among the voters.
  7. There are no material prizes for the winning games creators, the only prize is the achievement of being on the podium and the right to use golden, silver or bronze Kaz Kompo winner logo.

I'm pretty sure all games from all New Year Disks are written earlier than on January 1st ;)

Well, we tried to keep releasing date rule. That's why in the game set you can find "really old" games, like Chutes, Mission Moscow or Megaoids.

However, there are small exceptions to that general rule: we decided not to include "Delta Space Arena" and "Secretum Labyrinth Kings Gold" since in 2014 just demo versions were published and the final versions were published this year. Those games will take part in the next edition of Kaz Kompo. We didn't want to make people vote twice - even if majority of them would never see the final commercial version with their own eyes.

Treasure Island Dizzy - 10

Great Return of the Penguins - 9

Strictly Gone Bananas - 8

Dimo's Quest - 7

Nemezyro -6

Pad (1.8?) - 5

Perplexity - 4

Ransack - 3

RGB - 2

Thetris -1

If Strictly Gone Bananas can't be accepted, remove it, shift Dimo's Quest and all lower positions up a point and then add CaveBlaster+ with 1 point to the bottom.

Hi, would it be possible that there are two competitions next year? One for the normal games and the other for the 10 liners?

I just think that in this competition, the 10 liners, however great they are can not compete with the main games. This is unfortunate.

Though it does somehow become a competition then which is the same as the 10 liners contest....

@Snicklin: Many of those 10-liners are much better than some of the games from the "main" set... I was thinking about organising some kind of qualifiers: specific types of games (like 10-liners, new levels sets, games written live during parties and jams) would have to fight for the right to taking part in the second, final phase with other games (and the best of them would qualify) - but not everyone in AtariOnline likes that idea :)

Generally, we wouldn't like to complicate the rules too much or to overmultiply categories, it could discourage people from voting - now we have simplicity: we choose THE BEST new game that we saw during a year. On the other hand, in my opinion, if the game set (for one voting step) is too big, it also discourages people just because of the scale...

Adam

P.S. I've translated majority of foreign titles on the list. Here's another one: "Rubačka vo kopec" - apparently means in Czech something like "Fight over hill", "rubačka" is a slang word.

I understand your point Adam but people will mostly think 10 liner = budget game, regardless of how good a game it is to play I imagine most folk would mentally automatically place it as a lower game which is a tad unfair but what is likely to happen.

As Snicks says, a separate compo for them would be kinder and fairer..

Also, the Robbo entries, as fun as they are, are they not hacks rather than especially written games..Don't get me wrong, I do like them a lot but its a game engine being reused.

Adam, you made a tremendous work, thank you very very much!

Regarding rules of the contest, I think they are perfect and I would change nothing.

Thanks to this contest and its fair voting system, we can chose the best games of the year.

It's very useful; when someone asks me best homebrews for A8, I just give Kaz Kompo winners and runners-up list (with some personal addictions).

I once asked for the best homebrews for ZX Spectrum; no one was able to give me a comprehensive list.

On the other hand, thanks to the work of people like Adam, we can try ALL games, even the ones we missed.

Thank you again!
