the1hatman #1 Posted December 11, 2015 Hello all! I want to attempt to recreate the boxes for the individually sold Intellivision controllers. These seem to be a rare item although I have seen several of the Sears boxed individual ones on eBay. What I am looking for are some really good pics or, even better, scans of the Intellivision II controller box (front back and sides). I believe the stock I use for my repro boxes should be able to fit the dimensions of this kind of box in flat form. I will probably have to find a way to recreate whatever retention these came with on the inside as well. If anyone has any info or pics/scans it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
the1hatman #2 Posted December 11, 2015 I know these are out there but I would like to find one for the Intellivision II...
JasonlikesINTV #3 Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) That's high on my Sears collecting list. If I ever find one, I'll send scans Edited December 11, 2015 by JasonlikesINTV
BBWW #4 Posted December 11, 2015 I have two sears. One Unopened. I could do scans of all sides. I won't tear down the box. :-)
the1hatman #5 Posted December 11, 2015 I wouldn't DREAM of asking anyone to tear down a box! But scans of any/all the sides would be great. I really want to find the Intellivision II version but I bet the Sears box would go over just as well. If you have any pics of whatever kind of retention was inside the box holding the controller in place that would be great as well.
+intvsteve #6 Posted December 11, 2015 Would be cool if this happens. I've missed out on both the Sears and Inty II controllers forever, and been looking for a long time, too.
the1hatman #7 Posted December 11, 2015 I know I have seen the Intellivision II boxed controllers before so I am sure they exist. The Sears version seems to be far more common though. I'm hoping someone has a boxed II model in their collection and sees this thread. I have an extra set of II controllers just in case my primary set ever dies. I've always wanted the boxes for them though. If nothing else, I may just have to "invent" some using graphics from existing packaging.
BBWW #8 Posted December 11, 2015 Funny I've only seen one boxed Intellivision II controllers or maybe a picture of one. Haven't seen them in the wild. I think the one in the photo you have is actually one I bought on Ebay, That little tear and plastic bag looks familiar. I will check the open one. I don't recall a retention system. the1hatman #9 Posted December 11, 2015 It is the one you bought. I linked it from your post about it here, lol
Rev #10 Posted December 11, 2015 how about a box for the intellivision flashback overlays?
BBWW #11 Posted December 11, 2015 I've designed a box that fits overlays for Flashback. Just never got around to making it. It's a great Idea. Mine was large enough so we could also use it for the Ultimate Flashbacks and put all the overlays in the box.
the1hatman #12 Posted December 11, 2015 how about a box for the intellivision flashback overlays? I hadn't thought about that one. I put my flashbacks in with each game they went with so that's probably why it didn't occur to me. Sounds like BBWW has you covered though.

the1hatman #14 Posted December 11, 2015 I might know a guy... Don't tease us now, lol Even just clear enough pics so I can see what each side looks like would help. Might be able to recreate the design using other Intv II packaging graphics since they are all kind of similar.
BBWW #15 Posted December 13, 2015 Please, I will never get around to it. LOL I only did a half ass mock up. PLEASE. I think that is a great project. I'm betting you could actually have them made and sell 100 of them pretty easily. I hadn't thought about that one. I put my flashbacks in with each game they went with so that's probably why it didn't occur to me. Sounds like BBWW has you covered though.
the1hatman #16 Posted February 18, 2016 FINALLY!!! Not the best pics in the world but easily enough for me to attempt a reproduction. Now to test out my new Intellivision fonts package
+intvsteve #17 Posted February 18, 2016 Really cool! So… how can we lay hands on these things?
the1hatman #18 Posted February 18, 2016 Well first I have to... 1. Figure out the dimensions for these boxes 2. Build a new template to fit this size box 3. Create a mock up 4. Refine the design 5. Go to my kitche... um, "Factory Floor" and fire up the presses 6. Get bombarded over PM the way I did for the Blix and Piggy Bank boxes 7. Go crazy 8. Return from going nuts and finally complete production! This could take a while I'm afraid but at least I have a starting reference now. Still need to see what the back of these boxes look like but they may just repeat the front. I do know there was no kind of retention inside of them. Just a controller wrapped in bubble wrap.
the1hatman #19 Posted February 19, 2016 Ok, so maybe it didn't take all THAT long... That back/bottom panel is a complete fabrication. I have no idea what is there or if the front/top panel just repeats itself the way the sides do. I based it off the Intellivision II owner's manual and the kind of text seen regarding copyright and manufacturing on most game and hardware boxes. I'm also not sure of the part number 4183. It's very hard to make out the number from the pics even at 400%. If anyone happen to know it or can confirm 4183 I would be most grateful. I also have no idea about the actual dimensions. This is a best guess that I will have to refine after printing a mock up. Again, any confirmation would be appreciated. But other than all THAT, yeah it's pretty much done
mthompson #20 Posted February 19, 2016 Very cool project. Your boxes are terrific. If I may, here are a couple of things I've discovered in working with the Intellivision-related typefaces... SF Intellivised is very similar to the Intellivision logotype, but many of the letters differ subtly. (Note the left edge of the "t" for instance.) The only way to get an exact match is to scan an original or use some of the vector art that's online. But if you want or need to use Intellivised, the uppercase letters plus the lowercase E look more authentic at 85% width. Xped is a spot-on typeface for the Mattel Electronics logo, but the "M" and "a" in Mattel should be shifted until they touch. The "tt" almost touches. But this is nitpicky, geeky typesetting stuff. The box is awesome, as is the graphics work that goes into these. I'm insanely jealous of what you're able to do. Bravo!
AJChandler #21 Posted February 20, 2016 Outstanding, looks like the original. Have you considered producing and selling these repos. If so count me in on any you make.

It's better than what's actually on there. Here's a scan of the manual that comes with it and the box back
wolfy62 #23 Posted February 20, 2016 I don't remember ever having a hand controller come in a box, that is so cool! I had replacement controllers sent out to me twice from Mattel in the 80's. That looks great!!!
the1hatman #24 Posted February 20, 2016 cmart, you are my hero!!!! That I will have the paper insert for mine now is huge to me. Very interesting underside to that as well. I thought for sure it would at least have the same black panel as the front. When you say the part number is on an underside, where exactly do you mean? The extended part number is on the other top flap. I forgot to measure the box for you. Lemme go do that now.
