The latest of the 3 cheques was dated February 29th.

The DVR images were posted to Facebook at about 7:40pm EST on Friday 26th February: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/247145-coleco-chameleon-hardware-speculations/?p=3451455

The DVR card in the prototype was identified on Monday 29th February at 10:49pm EST: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/247145-coleco-chameleon-hardware-speculations/page-151

This doesn't completely match the timing in Mike's version of events, as the cheque is dated after the images were posted and on the same day (not after the day) that they were identified:

Then in a move to extract more money from me he indicated that for $3,000 paid now (2/29/16), and $3,000 paid in 60 days he could wrap this up and have a production ready prototype completed. So, again, I wrote him out a check he promptly cashed with me at my bank. Soon after this he emailed me the images of the clear unit with the PC DVR capture card in it.

It's back. Believe it or not Sean weasled his way as an admin on ReadRetro.com. He also claimed to do website optimization and web design. At one point I was stupid enough to pay him to help make some backend changes. I just deleted his account and forgot he had anything to do with it as it was a couple years ago. I believe he came in and deleted the news story.

As indicated above, the clear fake proto photes went up Friday and then were discovered the evening of the 29th. I had written him out the check earlier in the day on the 29th. Sorry, for the mistake on the timing. I can tell you, I didn't pay him the $3K AFTER it was discovered.

 

That is Sean's thumbprint on the check. He met me at my bank to cash it because he didn't want to be charged the $7.50 check cashing fee if he took it in without me.

The checks could be back dated or filled out incorrectly. A better proof would be the bank stamp on the back side. That's assuming they were actually cashed or deposited by the payee as named. Mike stated that on at least one occasion, they went to the bank together. I'm not prepared to take him at his word that another person actually took the funds, not from the way he's bragged in public about shifting money around between his many ventures.

this is why i didnt and wont read his blather, because its certainly better (and easier) to read others disproving it with instead of taking what he has to say as having a grain of truth. i only have one single question for him, its 'does your wife know how much money you straight up gave away to a dude you knew nothing about?'

Some banks require a thumb print when a non-customer wants to cash a check at the bank. If I started to see canceled checks with a thumb print on it from someone whom I was paying and trusting with the future of my venture, I would be extremely concerned. Essentially he is cashing the check instead of depositing it into his account.

In that case, would you mind answering a few questions? That would take us a lot farther down the road of understanding the whole truth.

 

1. What made you think it was a good idea to ask for money, twice, before having anything to show? Did you figure that everything would take care of itself once you were funded?

 

2. Did you ever actually have the rights to make any of the games you featured in the Chameleon sizzle reel, such as the Intellivision and Colecovision multi-packs? What was the nature of the contract, if any (percentage of sales, up-front licensing, etc)? Did you tell Gizmodo that you had rights to Atari properties? If not, who did?

 

3. What were the plans for the USB versions of Colecovision and Intellivision controllers that never came to light?

 

4. Why was Coleco Holdings led to believe there was a viable product in that shiny Jaguar shell? Should they have gone to the expense of printing flyers and sharing their booth with you a booth at Toy Fair?

 

5. Who made the decision to delete critical comments on the RVGS Facebook page, and block people from commenting? Who took down the bogus 2nd "prototype" minutes after it was outed here on the AtariAge forums?

 

6. Was any money paid to any other hardware engineer besides Sean "Lee" Robinson? If not, what was it about Robinson that made him more worthy of this amount of spending than the people who came before?

 

7. What happened to the "team" that you proudly splashed on the Chameleon page? It seems that their contributions were much smaller than those of the hardware engineer(s). Why were they named while the hardware engineer(s) were not?

 

8. Who paid for your trip to the NYC Toy Fair?

 

9. You ask that we not consider this issue when thinking about the Retro magazine. Why not? The same guy is in charge, and you have already taken money for that venture.

 

10. What happened to your partners in GameGavel and Retro magazine? Have they been cut out of their share of any profits, as has been suggested elsewhere? Will they be compensated in any way?

 

I feel that if you're going to come here and try to explain yourself, you should be able to answer all of these simple, direct questions. I am prepared to believe that someone played you, but from where I sit, it seems likely that you were an enthusiastic participant, every step of the way.

These questions deserve answers.

I think Mike is definitely being handled/managed/mentored by someone. No more impulsive, defensive outbursts anywhere, especially not here on Atari Age.

 

Note the carefully scheduled announcements, deletion of critical comments on Facebook without any engagement, just "wait for the Kickstarter" and bland facts. I'm not certain the Facebook.com/retrovgs account is being managed by Mike, it doesn't seem like his writing style.

 

Someone needs to be working the camera for him at Toy Fair, making the edits, possibly feeding him lines.

 

Well, maybe kinda true, sort of. If you believe the stuff he's said here, anyway. I wouldn't want to be his lawyer.

If Sean deleted those images within minutes, then we know that he's doing that old trick of anonymously following and acting on posts in this thread. Sean, why not come out of hiding and give your side of the story? If not we just have to assume you are the criminal fraudster that you are accused of being.

 

Sean does indeed claim to do website design and SEO work, although I wouldn't have confidence employing someone whose site was already out of date 20 years ago: http://www.seanhq.com

 

He wanted to cash the cheque not to avoid the $7.50, but to avoid any paper trail leading to him. I'm almost surprised he didn't ask to be paid in a brown envelope of unmarked non-consecutive bills.

Yeah this Sean guy sounds like a scammer. But it's your job not to hire scammers. The fact you couldn't smell his BS shows you really weren't fit to run a hardware manufacturing project in the first place.

 

The fact that you were so desperate to get this project off the ground (despite it not making much sense as a product) is what put you in a position to get scammed by a scammer.
