keepdreamin #4851 Posted March 3, 2016 "Coleco Chameleon" as of right now "trending #1 on Facebook" again. Okay... at least on my own feed. This time for all the wrong reasons. River West should take this opportunity to offer out the Coleco brand for HDR capture cards. ColecoSecuritySystems has a nice ring to it.
Flojomojo #4852 Posted March 3, 2016 on GameGavel. I used to try and sell there but its been years and years ago. I think it was once merged with another auction site or some such that got sold off maybe. Maybe it was after that I don't remember very clear. I liked the idea behind what GameGavel could have been but it just never seemed to work out and I got tired of basically giving my stuff away on there so I went back to ebay. It was one thing to try and support the community, but taking a loss on everything isn't how to do that. Anyhow, I'm surprised it has lasted as long as it has. The only reason it exists is to be anti-eBay. I think I'll stick with the giant worldwide marketplace with millions of users instead, thanksverymuch. Just like the Chameleon is anti-digital download and anti-update. Yay, cartridges. I suppose RETRO is anti-Internet or something (the blog is nothing much)`
Cav #4853 Posted March 3, 2016 Can we please stop blaming everyone who happens to be affiliated in any way with Mike? This is getting to be ridiculous. I agree. It's HIGHLY doubtful that freelancers scattered around the country were privy to any of inner workings of CC. They write an article. They send it in. That's pretty much the extent of their involvement with the magazine let alone a completely separate project they have nothing to do with.
MotoRacer #4854 Posted March 3, 2016 I wonder if this will delay Coleco making those replica mini-bartop arcade machines, trying to avoid some of the heat for a while. That would be a shame, as that's one product I was genuinely looking forward to.

That would be a shame, as that's one product I was genuinely looking forward to. I can't imagine that the Coleco brand has had this much attention or recognition since the 80's. Gotta strike while the iron is hot! As long as they don't call it "chameleon" they should be fine.
SoulBlazer #4857 Posted March 3, 2016 Yes, this stops now, I'm close to kicking several people from this thread. As soon as I saw someone bring up Mike's wife, my first thought was, "Are you fucking serious?" So, please, I know it's going to be boring now for a bit while we wait for Coleco's report and various podcasts/interviews/blog posts to appear, but let's leave everyone not directly involved with this project alone. ..Al Sorry Al. It's just a honest question that has come across my mind. I was not meaning to imply she was in any way involved and I hope she's alright.
Tempest #4858 Posted March 3, 2016 I blame Albert! (ducks and runs) I blame Trump and/or Clinton. They've got to be involved in this somehow.

I can't seem to find much about them, I sure do not want an exact replica of way back when, surely the'll use modern tech? Right?
StopDrop&Retro #4860 Posted March 3, 2016 I suppose RETRO is anti-Internet or something (the blog is nothing much)` lol, that's the problem! I challenge you to find me anyone who can explain what that magazine does. When I backed them for Year 1, I thought it would be an American answer to Retro Gamer. Instead I got a weird hodgpodge covering "retro" inspired modern games, collectible tchotchkes and very very little coverage of actual retro games or the retro gaming scene between all the ads. I learned my lesson, didn't subscribe to Year 2. I try to learn from my mistakes.

Right? I haven't been able to find any information about them. I'm personally hoping for exact replicas, similar to the Mattel reissues of their LED sports games. Keatah #4863 Posted March 3, 2016 I thought the replicas had some differences, not accounting for 40 years of tech advances.
Shawn #4864 Posted March 3, 2016 Cosmetically, I'd like to see 1:1 reproductions of the tabletop arcades from Coleco but perhaps with some sort of modern method for the display.
Keatah #4865 Posted March 3, 2016 Part of the charm was the VFD (or LED) segmentation. If you go modern LCD or OLED, you might as well do emulation of the full game. Or rewrite for those of you that hate emulation.
MotoRacer #4866 Posted March 3, 2016 I haven't been able to find any information about them. I'm personally hoping for exact replicas, similar to the Mattel reissues of their LED sports games. To my knowledge, they never said either way. People thought it could mean either exact replicas or full screen arcade perfect ports. Either way, i'd want them. RupanIII #4869 Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) I Did The Math... Not 8-biit, Not 16-bit, Not 32-bit, certainly not 64-bit.. nope, This was just a 2-bit SCAM!!! HAHAHHAHAHAH Blah Blah Blah... Coleco License, Gamester, Pico, Atariage negative press... Ask yourself this... does any of this matter one bit if Mike Kennedy already has a signed purchase order for over $2M from Toys 'R Us? ~ Edited March 3, 2016 by RupanIII
Keatah #4870 Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) Ha! I recall playing AutoRace, and listening to the buzzer thing. And I thought it was a real motor connected to a slapper thing that would hit against something. Eventually when I took it apart to take the "motor" out for use in a slot car, I was totally confused it had a speaker with no magnet. Talk about high tech!! Later when I "learned" computer science I successfully argued the game was multi-tasking, it controlled the display, made sounds, and monitored input. Great times! Couldn'a been more than age 6 or 7 then. Edited March 3, 2016 by Keatah

Albert #4872 Posted March 3, 2016 Sorry Al. It's just a honest question that has come across my mind. I was not meaning to imply she was in any way involved and I hope she's alright. I appreciate the curiosity and desire to know what's going on behind the scenes. But it's something we can only speculate about unless these individuals choose to talk about it some day (which seems unlikely in this particular case). And when people speculate about matters like this, it tends to come down on the negative side of things. I just don't think it's fair to talk about people like this when we really don't know their involvement (if any), and they are also not here to defend themselves. I hope we can be classier than that. I would focus my attention on those actually involved with the project (those listed on the Team page on the Coleco Chameleon site), and that should be done without the insults and name calling that are more at home at grade school than in a forum populated by adults in their 30s and 40s. Stick to the facts. ..Al
bretthorror #4873 Posted March 3, 2016 I'm also in the camp of the mini tabletops being old school or I'm not really interested at all, preferably either the same as the old tabletops or even better new ports featuring some creativity ala the Excalibur ones from years ago. Also, much props to Al & the mod team for telling people to fuck off with the weird shit. This thread was a mixture between serious detective work and comedy for months, but the last couple days have been some nuts, morbid, 1930s monster movie villagers with torches shit. It took the piss out of it for me when it turned that dark. Let's not forget that many of the people shit talking this project and "informing the public" have monetized youtube channels or websites that stand to make a good piece of change on thousands of CC related hits, all of which the real detective work (to my knowledge) have been deciphered by people who aren't profiting from this at all. So they're not exactly white knighting this out of the goodness of their hearts to save the retro gaming world. And before anyone decides to give me any grief, I said, many, not all.

Actually, Mike owned GameGavel and another, non gaming auction site called Vendazlle. http://web.archive.org/web/20100104130248/http://unnamedgaming.com/?cat=578&paged=3 Scroll down a bit and you will see something about Vendazzle. I would link the picture here but for some reason I can only view images attached to my account, not add more.
