Coleco Chameleon .... hardware speculations?

I wonder how OJ's search for the real killer Mike's quest to get his money back from "The Mysterious Mr. Lee" is going.

Apparently Retro has enough in the Petty cash fund to do some Facebook advertising AND hire someone to answer questions.

Why is this thread still going?

Because MK is scum and this is a returning reminder to all not to deal with him. That and his antics are funny as hell do to the guy clearly having no shame.

Eventually, there will be Retro REPLAY's Greatest Articles compilation!

Even worse, Mike Kennedy might come back to AA to publicly shame us into supporting his awesome and super professional retro effort you guise! Why, we must be fools to not be pouring money into his efforts to produce COLLECTIBLE print magazine, full of retro-y goodness! And if you act now, you'll get the very next one off the presses, with a hand-written low serial number!

Maybe this thread should be retired and a new thread called the Mike Kennedy Watch should be created. Some people may believe we must be ever vigilant lest he again try to con innocents into parting with their money into his latest retro-scheme. They may also believe he should be shunned online, banned on forums and at retro video game conventions and his enterprises GameGavel and Retro Magazine should be boycotted and left to wither away.

I agree with all that, with one exception: Mike Kennedy shouldn't be banned from the forum. It needs to be clear that he doesn't visit because he's too much of a coward, not because he isn't allowed.

He visits (anonymously)

Remember When the 'prototype' pics were pulled minutes after being proven fakes? Unless you believe the Mr. Lee had unlimited access to pull the pics.

I just want to understand one thing. As there was this broken project out there, it was considered overboard to say something like "we have to kill this project". And now that there is nothing to be gained for even mentioning Mike, it's fine to call the guy a scumbag.

What has changed?

The presumption of innocence, sometimes referred to by the Latin expression Ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat (the burden of proof is on the one who declares, not on one who denies), is the principle that one is considered innocent unless proven guilty.

Sure, but the posts I'm talking about are post SNES Jr. At that point it was clear this project was screwed up, otherwise I wouldn't have said such things.

IMO, there were two distinct periods in this project-- the time when the RVGS had the potential to be a real project (albeit not your cup of tea) and a time when it was clear that there was no legitimate project going on, and that Mike was lying. It's up to the individual when one era ends and the next begins, but I agree with you, the SNES Jr. is a really good one to pick. It's fair to give Mike the benefit of the doubt during the first phase, but once he crossed the line, all bets were off.

I'm of the opinion that we gave Mike more leeway than he ever really should have expected, and offered him numerous opportunities to produce what he claimed or at least back out gracefully. Review the discussion period from Christmas/New Year... there are a lot of people saying "I doubt it, but let's see what he has." When quite honestly, at that point the jig was already up. When someone exhausts THAT MUCH good will, they no longer have the luxury of just walking away. So if anyone is saying that we need to avoid attacking Mike personally in the wake of the project, I strongly disagree.

Having said that, I think we're obligated to stick to the truth. Don't demonize the man, don't turn him into Atilla the Hun. Just remind ourselves what actually happened: Mike lied, Mike recruited others to lie for him, Mike insulted our intelligence, Mike insulted us personally, Mike asked for money for something he couldn't deliver, etc. etc. Don't let this turn into a mob.

Just remembered something.

Here, I do have some Sinclair Spectrum tapes that I have been selling. I have a couple of copies of a game called Codename Mat. It was a highly popular game in its time and I remember it spending weeks, if not months, at the top of the Spectrum charts. Never played it but I did look it up on YouTube recently. It was ... uh ... a surprise. What does it remind you of?

This isn't at all on topic, but I just found this. http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2016/06/the-top-100-your-sinclair-zx-spectrum-games-87-codename-mat/

Those game prices are surprisingly reasonable. I guess they shouldn't be such a surprise, since they're slow-loading cassette tapes, but that's a much nicer price than a US$40 ROM cartridge!

So, any news on E3? Will we have to wait and see if RetroVGS in any form makes a presence? For the moment, that is the most interesting part for me.

Nope. My personal guess is that the RVGS presence was reserved well before the ToyFair Incident, and no one bothered to cancel it during the ensuing pandemonium. I sincerely doubt Mike or anyone else has made any effort to prep for E3 or attend the show. Even going just to hawk the magazine seems far-fetched to me.

But if he does go, it'll be a bigger event than the NX reveal, you can be sure of that! :D

I would be surprised that MK could afford any kind of a booth at E3. I know the convention isn't what it used to be, but still. I suppose he can get in via a press pass, but that will probably be the extent of his presence.
