Coleco Chameleon .... hardware speculations?

Recommended Posts

dunno, my server costs are like 4.99 a month once you break it down, and its got more than enough capacity for a site like game grovel

No, Game Gavel isn't hosted like that, as pointed out a few days ago it's one of the 'top sites' for this auction host with a sad dated website GLETech.com; they quote $29.99/month as the cheapest plan (unless they gave Mike free membership for life or something).

Mike Kennedy may be getting a special rate because he is part of the showcase, friends with the webmaster or locked in a cheaper plan sometime in the past. Nonetheless, the site cannot be helping his budget any. I doubt there is any real dispute to the pronouncement that the site is dead.

How long will it be before Mike Kennedy comes here to recite his own version of the facts to dispute that he is a thief and a fraudster? I wish that his name could be changed to THIEF on this forum like it is when you steal from the shopkeeper on The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Game Boy.

Ok, I have not said much on this whole fiasco but now I am. This is the last straw

http://www.ebay.com/sch/socalvideogames/m.html?_nkw&_armrs=1&_ipg&_from&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684

That son of a @[email protected] is selling off some stuff that I gave him for the ColecoVisions podcast that was not to be sold! He even attempted to sell of a item I paid for and sent to him to play with the understanding it was not to be sold but returned to me.

He unfriended me on facebook, stopped calling and such. Dont know what the hell I did, but did take heat for his stupidity by being a so called "friend". Now he is happily selling off stuff that I asked not to be sold due to being on loan.

PiperCub and UKMike were definately correct about him - use a friend then dump them.

Well, you were a little too pro-Mike for my taste - prior to this incident.

It is extremely annoying and upsetting when stuff like that happens. I had a similar thing happen to me, but instead of mini-arcades, it was three pinball machines. I have never been so angry in my life, and I had two army friends in my car ready to go. After that incident I made my OPP, to make sure that something like that would never, ever happen again. I never want to be pushed to those choices ever again.

The OPP has served me very well! you can read it here. I direct everyone who tries to suck me dry, or borrow something, to it.

Great video by the way. It was very pleasent to watch.

Yep, but not any more. I heard what Ian and Pat had to say on the CUpodcast, Ian was cracking me up :) Next time I am out in the San Diego area again, I am going to see if I can get that Sandwich he offered :P

They mentioned the Ms Pac was part of the repaired mincades, it was not, it was Mikes personal one. I only sent a Frogger, Donkey Kong and Galaxian that were repaired.

Currently I have not seen anything from Mike concerning refunding the buyers, nor have I seen the Frogger and Block Out VFD games he said were going to be sent back.

Also John "Gamester81" is still a main host of The ColecoVisions Podcast. We have also replaced mike with author Brett Weiss :)

Not that we needed ANY further evidence of the kind of person Mike is, but that's proof that we're not dealing with anything more than a thief. If anyone else in the community made an honest mistake in selling something they shouldn't have (as hard of a mistake as that would be to make), they'd at least show the effort to rectify the situation, successful or not. Mike offered to bribe you with dirty money, then when you refused, he said "Well, screw you, it's mine now."

At this point, I'm pretty sure Mike has no friends, only accomplices.

If you notice a theme, it is that everyone is telling the same story other than MK. Willie has been very careful to explain exactly what was and was not to prevent any grey area later on, as was I, Clay, BTB, UK, and the other floppy gillion people in this thing.

The sad part is that I'm not even surprised that Mike would do this.

Mike, if you're reading these posts, please seek help. There is something seriously wrong with you. Illegal flipping like this is FRAUD. Willy could take you to court over the price of a mint condition product, since it was claimed as such in the auction descriptions, which would tally up over $500, WHICH CONSTITUTES A FELONY.

Yep Ian's colorful linguistic repertoire was a highlight of the podcast. That was fantastic :D

I've decided to start ghost writing insults for a nominal fee. If anyone needs me feel free to get in touch

EDIT: Sorry, all, I just realized I should be using multi-quote. I'm not used to these high tech forums. Bit of a Luddite.

seriously, at this point if someone came here with a story that he sold someone's stuff on ebay, the person got pissed and went and chopped him up into pieces that i wouldnt bat an eyelash. he's outright fucking members of the community now, so whats keeping him from being banned? i know some people would probably enjoy seeing him come back here and post again in the future, but i cant help but feel like he shouldnt be allowed back here. not like his reputation wouldnt precede him and protect people to a degree, but this guy has shown us again and again new levels of scumminess.

to willie, if i were you, i'd seek legal recourse while this is fresh. if someone doesnt stand up for whats right, i can see him continuing to screw people over. i think the only thing that will stop his ways would be someone taking him to court.

I've been lurking every Mike Kennedy thread since complaints about Retro Magazine's publication schedule first cropped up... and then Retro VGS happened... and Coleco Chameleon... and everything else... and now this... and good lord, it's as if Mike contracted some sort of "a-hole" disease roughly 3 years ago and has been on a slide ever since.

The only thing I can add to the discussion is based on my experience as a writer and editor for a print magazine roughly a decade ago. You know how Mike decided to scale the Retro Replay issue down to digest size? We did the same thing back in the day, because we were bleeding money and it was a last-ditch effort to rein in costs. I think we put out two of those damn things. Hopefully, the same is true of Retro Magazine and Mike's pie-in-the-sky fantasy world is soon to get the karma he has been building.

I just don't get a man who doesn't just rip friends and fans off, but also does so while saying he has their best interests at heart. That's some real sociopath type stuff right there...

Just when you thought Mike couldn't get any worse...

Jesus H. Christ in a segway.Trying to scam people with indiegogo and kickstarter is one thing, but outright lying and stealing... it's almost as if Mike is the swiss army knife of retro bullshit. He'll always find a way to dig himself into a much bigger hole.

Jesus...

If it weren't for the Coleco Chameleon I bet there would be people saying such things as :

  • We shouldn't judge Mike Kennedy without hearing both sides of the story,
  • We shouldn't defame Mike Kennedy by calling him a thief and a fraudster without positive proof of his guilt,
  • We should give him the benefit of the doubt
  • He may have had a good faith, if mistaken belief that he could do what he wanted with the games,
  • Its Willie's word against Mike Kennedy's word
  • The auction for these used games did not include any specific warranties as to the condition of the PCB
  • He made a mistake but can make amends
  • Haters will say anything to bring a good man down

Has anyone seen comments like this since the first report from Willie? I don't think I missed any in this vein.

At least I was contacted by one of the buyers due to Pat and Ians Video. the one who bought the Donkey Kong. He is converting it into a Mini Mame Machine which is cool! He wanted to send me something for my loss which I told him that was not necessary but appreciate the offer. He has not gotten a refund either.....Big Surprise. Most likely will not see anything now especially after I posted my vid, Mike probably feels he is entitled to the ill gotten gains.

Oh well, moving on.....

The combination of Willie's testimony, combined with Mike's auction listing, paints a fairy objective story about what happened. Even without the sordid tale of the RVGS, there isn't much room for the benefit of the doubt. Knowing what we do know, however, It just makes a bad situation worse.

There are about 8 active sellers :

759 Japan Retro Direct (Japanese import games only)
318 rick63 (almost entirely Mattel HyperScan cards)
173 tobber101
51 avenger1
23 troglodyte
3 gdement
2 plasticrelic
2 unknown seller
...

I actually personally know the Japan Retro Direct guy (we were even in Boy Scouts together growing up, though he is a few years older than me; he lives in Japan now). He's also part of the Famicom Dojo podcast/youtube channel. I feel like I should give him a heads-up.

... plus, as Scott said earlier, everyone who's had any dealings with Mike has told a similar story of being used and then unceremoniously dumped.

So, either everyone else in the world is entangled in an orchestrated conspiracy to make Mike look bad, or (as I think Ian once memorably said about someone else) Mike is just a #7 on the Bristol scale.
