Downland1983 #11104 Posted March 15, 2017 Mknday? HAHAHA! That's the officially recognized abbreviation for Mike Kennedy Day. Like XMas instead of Christmas. Not familiar with it? It's a national holiday. It was combined with President's Day since Mike Kennedy is as huge a figure to retro gaming as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln are to US history.

Newsdee #11106 Posted March 16, 2017 <biting tongue> There's already enough drama with emulators and retro hardware and everything in between! It has calmed down fortunately. I remember the time where developers would get upset and declare they are "Quitting The Scene" and move into obscurity away from the hater legions.

Flojomojo #11109 Posted March 16, 2017 with 2 weeks to go until March 29th extended deadline, will Retro Patreon succeed? Stay tuned for more exciting adventures! This isn't Kickstarter or Indigogo (those ships have sailed), deadlines don't really matter here. March 29th is just the "deadline" to get on the mailing list to receive the already-finished Issue #13. Considering that all of the comments that we can see are "dude, where's my magazine?" it seems far from a sure thing the issues will actually arrive in your mailbox. It's astounding to me that they have the chutzpah to ask for "double print" subscription, one to read and one to save. Double Print + Digital Subscription (International)$13.99 or more per Magazine ∙ 1 patron Get two of the latest issue of RETRO Videogame Magazine delivered conveniently in print to your home mailbox. And, get a digital version too! We think there is nothing better than sitting down to flip through real paper pages just like the good old days. And you have one to share or collect and keep in its poly bag. Mike's whole point of their using Patreon is so he can release an issue when (and only when) it's paid for. You know, because what's more "timely" than a slow-moving print publication that comes out whenever? Dedicated to delivering timely, entertaining, and informative features focused on the biggest franchises and most memorable moments in interactive entertainment, the vision of RETRO Videogame Magazine is to "Celebrate Gaming's Past, Present, and Future". The 317 backers might be waiting a long time, they have a long way to go before they hit the adjusted goal of $4,500. Note that Mike calls RETRO, now in its third year of begging circulation, a "fledgling publication." I think of a fledgling as a baby bird with just enough wings to fly out of the nest. Another definition is, "a person or organization that is immature, inexperienced, or underdeveloped." I think any of those words would be a fine choice. Did you know? If you become a patron to RETRO Videogame Magazine, you'll immediately get access to as many as 9 patron-only posts. I confess, I'm tempted, just to do it, but I despise the idea of putting any money into this joker's scheme.

godslabrat #11111 Posted March 16, 2017 Doubt it, unless a last minute superfunder appears. I have seen a lot of projects get "pumped" in this manner. Why doesn't Mike just go to that mysterious "private investor" that saved the Coleco Chameleon? I mean, surely $4,500 would be peanuts when that person spared them the need to raise $250,000 on kickstarter...

I suspect though that if I get the VGA to grade a new roll of Charmin from the upstairs bathroom, that might be worth more. I can't say for certain, but since I believe it, it will be true.

Newsdee #11119 Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) I remember the time when the hater legions was upset and pushed the "Developer" Mike Kennedy into obscurity. Those were fun times.I was thinking of times where legit emulator programmers would stop working on it because people were demanding support for some features, begging for ROMs, or being general jerks to them. I can't really blame the programmers as for them it was just a hobby; but they had reached small celebrity status in some forums due to the emulator being popular. The CC fiasco was about unicorn hardware on promised vague specs which were never clarified trying to appeal to anybody under the sun, followed by a PR campaign that became infamous for deleting or altering old announcements and removing negative comments. Plus lots of former partners thrown under the bus that exposed the dirty laundry very publicly. That wasn't forum politics but self-inflicted drama. Flojomojo #11122 Posted March 17, 2017 I put in an offer, but I made my own chameleon and just for the giggle factor its worth a few bucks to have it The PDFs are readily available online. I think printing it yourself would be more in the DIY spirit ... and wouldn't allow anyone involved in this fiasco to recover any costs at all, no matter how little.

Pipercub #11124 Posted March 17, 2017 I would spend almost as much getting the card stock, printing it and folding it correctly than what I paid for it Remember the Socal (now SoAz) post where he bellowed that he was the only one who lost anything: money, reputation and what not? Chris Cardillo did make mistakes in not vetting Socal's claims and history, mistakes that he has owned up to, but his honest intent was to push the return of Coleco and he is still working at that. If he makes a few bucks from selling the flyers I am fine with that, he lost allot at the hands of Socal's scam and Mark Thomann was damn understanding in not canning him for that debacle. Having a disaster like the Chameleon on your hands is not exactly career enhancing. Chris is spending his own time and money to put on the Coleco Gaming Expo in August and having funded CGE2K14 out of my pocket I know exactly what he is taking on. Make no mistake he is one of the good guys so please cut him some slack. https://www.colecoexpo.com/
