LoTonah #4 Posted December 26, 2015 I think we should list our losses as well as our gains , some fine people have joined our ranks. Maybe a separate topic? I think it is a great idea. Who is new? Who came back after a long absence?
Kyle22 #5 Posted December 26, 2015 I'll start: Bill Wilkinson http://atariage.com/forums/topic/229656-interview-questions-for-bill-wilkinson/ Sorry I didn't give you a "like" on that post, it just seemed inappropriate for some reason. Bill was one of the Greats, and he will be missed by many. I think it is proper that he is the first person mentioned here.
Madi #6 Posted December 26, 2015 In my understanding, the word "LOST" also covers people that gave Atari community their own precious time. Pledged their efforts and even hard earned money, asking nothing in return. Yes, ProWizard is a big loss. I wish he comes back. madi

I miss his fair knowledgeable and impartial reviews of Atari software and hardware. Always taking the time to help new Atarians on the scene, even when there demanding and annoying. He can articulate things on anybody’s level. I miss his passion and love for this hobby. This hobby can't afford to lose any more like him. Hopefully your absence is short. MrFish #10 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) It happened actually last year, but recent enough and important enough to mention here in my opinion: The creator of Lode Runner, Douglas Smith, died last year in September. Lode Runner is the only game he did for the Ataris -- that I'm aware of -- but one of the best (Lode Runner's Rescue was done by Joshua Scholar). Here's the original thread on AA about it: Douglas Smith, creator of Lode Runner, dies Edited December 26, 2015 by MrFish
_The Doctor__ #11 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) about Prowizard...... Why is it when all the crap hits the fan you find kjman and v61 at the base the crapfest..... not the first time we lose people because of either directly or indirectly something the pair had said, done or leads people down the path of hating the community over possible lost revenue? We do this for pleasure.. enjoyment... and to help each other ... a band of brothers.... I have not found a better group of people who have done so much for each other.... I do what I can these days... we all have dis agreements... nobody is perfect and we all know it. I probably had a debate or two with Prowizard.. we eventually make our points and get along... or agree to dis agree... and later we have kind words and help each other out... Not the case when kj gets involved (usually behind the scenes)... not sure why... but there is a darkness surrounding him... Kj did some good things but trust me, I'd rather not deal with him.. Nothing wrong with making a buck... but misleading and applying pressure to a persons head 'til it pops serves no one in the end... Prowizard come back! You have more friends here than you know! We don't want to lose anymore this way... NOT ONE MORE! Edited December 26, 2015 by _The Doctor__

ZylonBane #15 Posted December 26, 2015 I think this needs to become a yearly thing, pinned. This is hands-down the most morbid, depressing thing I have ever read on AA. Sounds like someone has a death obsession.
Madi #16 Posted December 26, 2015 Most of us were born as numbers in this life. Few who are lucky enough to leave a positive things behind when they leave. ProWizard is a great loss to our small "ATARI" community because he never was just a number, that is for sure. Now, if we are not able to bring him back and continue to lose such great members, then, I will have to agree that it is macabre. Sorry, words will not convey what I want to say. madi
_The Doctor__ #17 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) It's not all about death, but loss as well.....conversely that's why I wanted a Gains thread to look at all the people who recently have begun helping with Atari 8 bit hardware, software, knowledge, testing, etc.... People taking new steps and releasing that software, that, article, that insight that makes the experience interesting and joyful..... A way to honor both the new to the community coder, document provider, maker, repair, artist, composer.... as well as the person who had been here forever and suddenly gives us one of those pearls... A true gain for us all! Something to celebrate... I for one want to be on the GAINS list before I end up on the loss list... Mclaneinc #18 Posted December 26, 2015 This is hands-down the most morbid, depressing thing I have ever read on AA. Sounds like someone has a death obsession. When I initially saw it and read I just thought of my daughter who was as near death as can be in the last year so it was depressing but I'm more than happy to honour Bill Wilkinson and yes it annoys me that my good friend Andreas felt the need to leave here because of the trio of folks and Lord knows my feelings about KJMAN have been spelt out in a 4 letter rant when he said I was trying to use my daughters illness (at that point she was being tested for cancer). To be honest I would not want it as a pinned item, I'd rather remember the alive version and the wealth of help they gave...
LoTonah #19 Posted December 26, 2015 I don't think its morbid, it is a way of looking back and honouring achievements and recognizing those we lost. Nothing more.

This hobby can't afford to lose any more like him. Hopefully your absence is short. Doug Though I can't remember too much of his posts - everyone should be able to give their fair and honest comment(s) if they so wish to express themselves that way. Of course, this may naturally tick some people off - which may be more of a reflection perhaps on the person who reacts too much to it? When you can't say things truthfully - you will feel like censorship is in place - that you can't say what you really like to say. This is always a delicate area particularly when there is a creation (program) finished or in progress. When nothing spiteful was said in the first place - you do know offense was not intended. We all have to be able to take/accept criticism of course, or choose to ignore it. Truth is like a mirror - and we all know what it is like looking at a mirror, that shows oneself - warts and all, etc etc. When you do lose someone significant in your life - their exit is always remembered, as too their significance and difference they have made to your life. For someone who chooses to leave - hopefully - they'll choose to come back? Harvey
flashjazzcat #24 Posted December 26, 2015 I should point out that although ProWizard does not currently participate in the AtariAge forum, he continues to make valuable contributions to the Atari community in other ways.
Mathy #25 Posted December 26, 2015 Hello guys Why is it when all the crap hits the fan you find kjman and v61 at the base the crapfest..... not the first time we lose people because of either directly or indirectly something the pair had said, done or leads people down the path of hating the community over possible lost revenue? I can't say much about kjman, but I've mailed with Lance (V61) a couple of times and have bought some stuff from him. You can believe me when I say that when Lance is making trouble, it's not about lost revenue, it's about a person he's having problems with. Lance isn't the only well known person in the Atari 8 bit scene who's told me things about this person Lance is having problems with. Funny thing is, they are saying basically the same thing. Independent of each other. Sincerely Mathy
