DZ-Jay #1 Posted December 26, 2015 Hello, I just got to play Stay Frosty 2 for the first time. I am using an Intellivision with a System Changer (Atari VCS adapter) and a "Retro-Bit" Atari joystick replica. I think I found a very weird bug. On the second stage, I was down to just a bit more than the Snowman head, and managed to get all the way to the last flame on the top right corner of the screen. Obviously, extinguishing that fireball killed my Frosty, which caused him to fall down to the floor in his normal death sequence. However, since the exit arrow was exactly at that same horizontal position, Frosty happened to fall straight into it, passing the level!!! Apparently the game wasn't expecting this because the score display went crazy giving me points eternally! I bet you I have the highest score ever (and it is still climbing) on this game. (And if it is not the highest score yet, just give me a few minutes...) Every 10K points, I hear the bell of an extra life and so I can never die completely (God knows I've tried). Which would be great, except that on the third stage, the carrot doesn't work now, so I am unable to kill that last fireball on the top right corner with snowballs. In short, I am stuck on the third stage, forever, with an ever increasing score, and unlimited lives. I am Staying Frostier than I ever expected! Here are some pictures. - 65K? - Nah... 71K! - A few seconds later we get to 100K... - And beyond... - I leave it for a few minutes, and it's now at 140K... - Then 340K! - And beyond 400K (I could do this all day...) - When will this end? - Not at 500K!!! -dZ.
+RevEng #2 Posted December 26, 2015 Fun bug! Maybe when you roll the lives counter your snowman will find release from his immortal prison.
DZ-Jay #3 Posted December 26, 2015 Oh, darn! It turns out that the broken carrot is the fault of the crappy joystick I'm using because I cannot get it to work after resetting the console. That means that the bug would have let me play eternally!
DZ-Jay #4 Posted December 26, 2015 Fun bug! Maybe when you roll the lives counter your snowman will find release from his immortal prison. The score rolled over but nothing much happened. I reset the game and the console at 50K points after the roll-over. However, I can't get the Snowman to shoot the snowballs any more. It was working before, so I'm guessing it's the crappy joystick. -dZ.
DZ-Jay #5 Posted December 26, 2015 OK, fixed my controller issue. I just reseated the joystick in the port and now it works correctly. Now my mission is to reproduce the bug so that I can play endlessly! -dZ.
Keatah #6 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) So far I haven't been able to dupe it in Stella. I wonder if it has anything to do with the system changer? The dead snowman head does indeed progress to the next level, but I haven't seen the score counter start increasing on its own. All the ice blocks need to be cleared for this bug to happen. And I duped it in Stella emulator just fine. Edited December 26, 2015 by Keatah

And I duped it in Stella emulator just fine. Aha! Then it's probably a bug in a "bonus points" routine triggered by finishing the level with all ice cubes cleared. I'll try it again. P.S. I thought it wouldn't be the System Changer, since it's just an Atari VCS clone PCB. It only uses the Intellivision for the power-supply, and feeds the audio and video signal through directly to the TV. Also, it is branded "Intellivision," so that in itself makes it way cooler than the Atari one. -dZ.
Keatah #8 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) Nothing exciting happens when the score rolls. It just starts counting again. I sent a savestate to SpiceWare. All you have to do is jump and the bug happens. When the score is stuck counting up at hi-speed you can't progress past level 3. And if you loose all your men, the counter still keeps going. till you get another one. then you can play again. OR, it will "time out" and you get the continue screen. Which you can't progress past because it behaves like collision detection between frosty and the arrow is not working. You then get booted to level 1 where the game plays normally It depends on your score and how quickly you get another man before the continue screen shows up. if you had just gotten one the counter won't make it 20,000 points till the next. But if you're approaching say 198,000, you'll make the 2000 points and get the man. Hope that makes sense. Edited December 26, 2015 by Keatah

Noah98 #12 Posted December 27, 2015 This same bug actually happened to me Christmas Eve! It was wild watching my score go crazy 😜
+Omegamatrix #13 Posted December 27, 2015 And for single-button players? Plug a keypad into the 2nd port, and press the following numbers: 587846 224539 To remember these numbers think of a telephone keypad and spell "Justin Bailey".
AW127 #14 Posted December 27, 2015 Interesting bug! What happens, when the score goes beyond 999999 points?
