Mister-VCS #1 Posted December 27, 2015 Played a few games today - here are my results: (Game 1) This game has never played in the 2600 HSC so far... Any other scores (game 1)?
sloth-machine #2 Posted December 29, 2015 I could never get past the cook ranking. I played the hell out of this game, but could never figure out the trick for it.
Supergun #3 Posted December 30, 2015 Me neither. Star Raiders, Star Master, & Star Voyager; never liked, played, understood, or enjoyed any of those seemingly similar boring and action less space games. Didn't understand what I was doing, where I was going, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love space games, but I preferred faster & more eventful space games with action & actual sprites to shoot at, like asteroids, Death Star battle, astrosmash, etc.

Try Solaris - it is the best game of this genre (with some elements of Moonsweeper).
Supergun #5 Posted December 30, 2015 Oh well I love Moonsweeper! Lots of action, beautiful graphics, unique elements in gameplay, super fun game. And yes, Solaris is much more of a complete space exploration experience. It also has more gameplay, more depth, and better graphics then the star something slumbers. Heck, even the ancient dinosaur Star Ship has larger sprites & more action then those dull drowsy drones.
BassGuitari #6 Posted December 30, 2015 Love Star Ship. At its core, Star Raiders is a graphical action/arcade version of the old Trek computer games of the '70s. And like the Trek games, it's pretty fun if you know what you're doing. I enjoy Star Raiders but there's a tedium about it after the first few battles, after which the game kind of feels like a chore. Go mop up here, go mop up there, find a starbase to refuel at, and go finish mopping up somewhere else. Still, on harder difficulty levels, that's a lot easier said than done, and the sense of exploration makes the game engaging. But I still prefer more arcadey, plug-in-and-go shooters, even the aforementioned and ancient Star Ship. cvga #7 Posted December 30, 2015 I've never played Star Raiders. I had Starmaster as a kid so I always play it instead. How similar are they? On a side note, I really enjoy MNetwork's Space Attack. My best friend had an Intellivision and we played Space Battle a bunch. Space Attack is a very good port but you need to read the instructions. The graphics in the battle scenes are amazing. The graphics in the battle scenes are amazing. On the 2600, Starmaster blows Star Raiders away. Much better graphics, and tighter and more simplified controls. Otherwise they're essentially the same idea. Warp to different sections of a galactic map and clear out the aliens, stopping at starbases as necessary. IIRC Starmaster doesn't give you performance-based rankings like Star Raiders does, though. You select one of four levels (Cadet through Starmaster) and if you beat it, that's what your rank is. So there's that, I guess. Space Attack is probably a game that gets forgotten about a lot, but it's pretty good when you figure out how to send/recall and activate your squadrons.
