Hi everyone,

I picked up my first 5200 last night and have been playing Defender and Qix (only games I purchased as I am waiting on an AtariMax cart to arrive).

I'm also looking for a replacement flip lid joystick cover if any of you has one that this wish to part with. :)

Congratulations on getting a 5200!! :) It is one of my favorite 80's gaming consoles and one of the most underappreciated. Now next you must get is the atarimax SD multicart. A true must own!

AtariMax is already on order.

Now I'm looking for a Trak-Ball controller.

BTW, 5200 Defender is now my favorite port of this game!

If you are on Facebook, join our Trak-Bombers group. Dan Kramer, the Atari engineer who created that very Trak-Ball, is an admin there and active participant.

There's also an active 5200 group:

We're not in competition at all with AA here [unlike some other Atari themed websites]. In fact, we mainly point back to the site but sometimes it's easier to find a post there with an AA link than it is to search through the forums here for specific info.

I've been playing both the 5200 and 7800 versions of Beef Drop the past few days on my iMac… Emulation…boo hiss! Actually, I've been gathering up ROMs because I intend to purchase both a 5200 AtariMax SD Cartridge and a 7800 Concerto SD Cartridge this year so I thought I'd start preparing for both acquisitions ahead of time.

Set up a profile with an alias. Yes, Dan actively participates in all of those groups, but especially in Trak-Bombers.

Here… some pics of Dan at the 2014 Sunnyvale Atari Party and the 2015 Davis Atari Party:

How much did the trackball controller cost you?

I think I need one because for the first time ever I actually started enjoying a game I hated as a kid, missile command. Use to play it with the original Atari controllers on Atari 2600 and it never clicked with me. But I tried it for the first time the other day with a 5200 stick and wow,the analogs are a thing of beauty with missile command. I know people are annoyed with the analogs on the 5200 but to me they go so perfect with the game, then again I opened them up and cleaned them and that made a world of difference using them now. But yeah I think I need the track ball cause Centipede and Tempest would go so beautiful with it,missile command too ofcourse. Have you ever opened one up and tried cleaning the insides? Thats probably going to be the first thing I do if I can get a non working one cheap.

Missile Command and Centipede...all night long. I finally got a Trak Ball controller.

TB was pricey, because it was CIB. The individual wanted $149.00 and I got him to accept $100.00. Still a lot more than I wanted, but I was having a hard time finding one in the wild, so I gave in and went the eBay route.

I'm actually going to give it a thorough cleaning later this evening and then its back to Missile Command! This game plays really well with the TB. ;-)
