Zeus #1 Posted April 18, 2003 I went over to my parents house today and retrieved the old Adam computer. Thinking that it was dead, I gave it one last shot. Turns out it works after all. It's just a little bit finniky. Anyway, my folks said I could keep it, as well as the 2 dozen or so games, & box for the computer. Score!!!
eldunko #2 Posted April 18, 2003 Lucky score... I've always wondered, is the ADAM, just a colecovision? Like can you take out the colecovision inside? Cause in that Illustrated History of Videogames, they show the cover open and the colecovision inside. I've been pretty confused

Mock #5 Posted April 18, 2003 The Adam has two main boards inside the case that are "piggybacked" on top of each other...no way it would be worth trying to rig one up as long as Colecovisions are as cheap as they are now. On a side note, you can take a standard Colecovision power supply and cut the end off of it and replace it with a DB9 connector and get rid of the printer and use the Adam as a stand alone Colecovision...That is what i do...the Adam has a much better RF output than the Colecovision so it works great as just a game console...even better than the Colecovision i think. only other strange thing about it is that the joystick connectors are on the right hand side and not in the front...it's a little strange...I use the Super Action Controllers. You can pick them up on ebay for about $30 and they work great and have a long regular un-coiled cord on them. Much easier to use than the regular Coleco controllers. Inky #6 Posted April 19, 2003 I recently got my 2 adams from my dad. I need a new data drive, a new floppy drive cable, and copies of Zaxxon, DK jr., and DK. *sigh* At least I can play my CV games. I enjoyed the ADAM.

I'm intersted. Do the drives still work? What is the pinout of both? Pics, instructions? Inquiring minds need to know The Adam has Composite video out as well. Mock #8 Posted April 20, 2003 I think the mod is only good for powering up the Adam if you want to use it for a Colecovision...but I'll post some pics tomorrow with instructions...or I'll there is a guy that sells them pre-wired if you have to buy a power supply you are better off just getting one from him...cost about $30 for a brand new one...which is the route I'd go unless you get lucky and find one on ebay for like $10...which is not likely. Cool... I have a few extra bricks lying around. I'll wait for your mod details. I'll probably splice the brick with a male/female 9 pin connector so that it can still be use with a CV. Thanks, -Lee
Mock #10 Posted April 20, 2003 IF you get a standard DB9 female and flip it over so the wide row of pins is on the bottom and short row is on the top it should be pin one is to your right...like this: ------------------- 5-4-3-2-1 9-8-7-6 ------------------- 1-red 2-empty 3-white 4-yellow 5-blue 6-7-8-9 are not used. *WARNING: Use this at your own risk! I have Coleco power supply model # 55416 - which is the only one I have ever tested it on!
A2600 #11 Posted April 25, 2003 But can you play CV carts on the Adam right??
Inky #12 Posted April 25, 2003 Oh heck, yeah. In fact, I had a cart copy program, and assuch, I have tons of CV carts on floppy for my ADAM. I just need to order a floppy cable from ecoleco.com to get it working.
