ultrasteve #1 Posted January 18, 2016 Some guy is selling these on eBay as 800XL / 65XE power adapters. Given the specs, should they work?! I bought one and it didn't, but not sure if I just got a duff one.
Rybags #2 Posted January 18, 2016 Does that say 5V on the label, not 6? Has he added the right plug or do you have to do that yourself? Not sure about others but my DIN plug only has 2 pins connected (that's all you need) 1600 mA should be sufficient power for a fairly expanded system. Though probably not quite enough for a mechanical HDD as well.
ultrasteve #3 Posted January 18, 2016 It's 5V, yes. There is a DIN plug attached to it, but it's a EURO 2-pin plug and he supply a crappy travel plug for the UK 3-pin connection. Here's the listing if you're interested: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Power-Supply-for-ATARI-XL-XE-NEW-EU-UK-plug-adapter-converter-/172036361526?hash=item280e2a8d36:g:qHcAAOSwgQ9V0Jzi I'm just debating whether to get him to replace or refund at the moment. Don't want to blow my computer up if it's not up to the job!
Rybags #4 Posted January 18, 2016 Looks OK to me - what probably sucks for you is that it has a wall plug adaptor rather than built to what you have but plenty of gear is that way these days (doesn't UK still use multiple wall socket types anyway?) ultrasteve #5 Posted January 18, 2016 OK, cool, thanks for checking it out for me. Yeah, it does suck that it's not got a standard 3-pin built-in. The UK only has one kind of wall socket though, so getting adapters is no hassle really.
Stefan Both #6 Posted January 18, 2016 A 2000mA PSU is enough to drive a XL with an Ultimate 1mb, MyIDE2 and an Sio2SD. So... Like Rybag already mentioned, it should do it's job as long as you don't drive it to the max. Maybe you can get an older dsl box. It often has 5V and 2 - 2.5Amps. Happy hunting! ultrasteve #7 Posted January 19, 2016 Thanks Stefan! I'll report back when the new one arrives to tell you if it works!
ultrasteve #8 Posted January 27, 2016 Hi all. Just an update - I received a replacement. Used with an LED tester I know it 'works' but unfortunately it won't power up my 65XE at all, even when nothing else is connected to it. I dare not try it on my 800XL in case it fries it, so I'm just returning it for a refund.
