Serious Computerist - Website

I hate to say it, but for some reason 'Malware Bytes' has suddenly begun filtering your website as 'malicious'! I do not doubt for one second it is a false positive, but 'ABE' in NoScript is also popping up with a block as well. Is it possible there is a problem with the updates you made recently that has led to an - unjustified - blacklist entry?

It's just simple HTML and CSS, and nothing different from what I've been running from the beginning. What are they warning you about? I'm running Malwarebytes, ABE, and NoScript on my machine too, and I haven't gotten any warnings. Weird...

That's not the same ABE as I'm running. ABE stands for "Ad Block Edge" on my machine. Yours is a different program. "<LOCAL>" sounds like it might be a filter that's been set on your machine (locally). Are you sure you didn't actually add my site to your block list by accident?

As far as the Malwarebytes warning goes, a search for the word "TINDAUIAL" on Google yields almost nothing (as in about 6 results), and nothing related to malicious web activity.

I have no idea what they'd be flagging. My site is made up of simple frames, tables, and CSS formatting. There are no scripts, java, ads, or any other technologies being used. The biggest "tech" my site uses is a CSS mouse-over for menus and links. icon_smile.gif

Nice site MrFish, just had a first look, loads of great info there...

Looks like you have it covered but I'm sure you will get great support from in here...

These days I'm just a player when I get the time so not much help to you but at least I can commend you on the site.

I have absolutely no doubt it is a false positive MrFish! Its just frustrating that I should suddenly get a block out of no where. In fact I get a block pop-up just for moving my pointer over the link in your signature! Weird!!! I will whitelist the site and that should be the end of it hopefully.

No worries about 'TINDAUIAL' by the way - that is just my machine's host name.

Thanks Mclaneinc... a lot of resources out there, that a lot of people have taken the time to archive for the community. I'm being fairly selective.

There are some more obscure items I'd like to add. GoodByte XL was kind enough to image ICD's Flashback and scan the manual for me.

I still have a request out for QuickCode by Stardust Software. I'd like to get a better copy of the DOS XL 2.3 manual too -- the copy out there

being a little hard on the eyes...

Hi Friends!

Nice site with clear and simply professional design.

All content is available with 3 clicks.

As far as it's concerned html5 - Pls., Don't pay attention.

I love xHtml4+CSS because of it's possibility to be converted into ePub clearly and simply.

Best regards!

Actually I just found out, there was a better scan made of the DOS XL 2.3 manual not too long ago, the problem being that the pages are quite out of order.

I'll have to take the time and reorder them when I get a chance.

I did a post-OSS version of 2.30.

Yes, and thanks for that Allan. Your version is the one I'm working from. The pages are (were) quite out of order, but I've taken care of that already. I'm now in the process of cleaning up and straightening the pages, and -- as posted in another thread -- looking for someone willing to copy the front and back covers.

Opps. I'll have to fix that. As far as the crooked text, that's the original manual. Sometimes I try to fix them but if I have a lot to scan I just leave them. It's amazing how much old manuals and books have crooked text. I can re-scan the covers but mine is the later white version that was put out by ICD when they bought the OSS stuff.

Yeah, I understand about the crooked text; I've seen that quite a bit too. Irregardless, I'll be taking the time to straighten them out as best as possible. It'll take a while, but worth it, since the scans themselves are already of good quality.

I didn't realize that was the case with the covers on the later ICD versions. I hadn't really considered it, but it makes sense. I don't think the cover needs to be rescanned in that case, since the quality is already good. I'll wait to see if someone who has the OSS yellow covers is willing to scan them. If not I'll just post it as is after the fixes and adding bookmarks.

New entry for DOS XL v2.30 with Bug/65 v2.0. This includes the fixed and bookmarked manual.

Alright, I've just taken down the DOS XL v2.30 ATR that was posted on my website (the manual is still available).

As it turned out, the ATR I had up did not contain Bug/65 as expected. In fact, after checking all the archives I'm aware of, none of the DOS XL 2.30 ATR/disks contain Bug/65!

It looks like all the imaged versions available are variations on the Indus GT supplied version of DOS XL, or they are a later FTe version.

So, if anybody knows where a legit copy of OSS DOS XL 2.30 (with Bug/65) can be found, or if someone has a real copy they would like to image, please speak up.

Thanks

Thanks to the generosity of AtariAge member Panther

the Serious Computerist Website will also now be hosted at: SeriousComputerist.AtariVerse.com (located in California)

in addition to the current location at: SeriousComputerist.AlterVista.org (located in Italy)

Wow I didn't even realize that your original website was so distance from where I live! Page loads are very fast  This shows how clean uncluttered websites can be a pleasure to browse no matter where on earth they may be located  Since I live in California, I'll have to check out the mirror and see if I notice any difference.

- Michael

EDIT: Just checked out the new mirror :-o :-o :-o Unbelievably fast!!!! Almost like it is hosted on my hard drive.

I didn't realize how far away it was either at first, until I went to log into the control panel one day and noticed that the homepage defaulted to Italian.

Well ironically, it looks like the mirror is actually down right now. I don't know if Panther is even awake yet at this hour (CA time).

I found a slight problem with some of the PDF's that I'd bookmarked in the past when they were opened in third-party viewers. At least with the current version of Nitro PDF Reader and possibly other readers (I can't recall if Foxit Reader was having the same issue when I used it before or not), bookmarks were being separated by an extra space between them. I'm pretty sure this was related to a particular version of Acrobat I was using in the past that tacked on some unknown character at the end of each bookmark (which just appeared as a space), if the entry was ended with a <RETURN> (actually must have been the <RETURN> character, but not having the effect of a return in the bookmark panel during editing in Acrobat). This had no adverse effect when viewing the PDF's in either Acrobat or Adobe Reader. So it wasn't until I'd recently started using Nitro PDF Reader that I noticed it.

I went through my site and corrected all the affected files, which are as follows:

Assembly Language Programming for Atari Computers (Byte / McGraw-Hill)
CLSN Pascal - Manual
Debug+ - Manual
EXDDT - Manual
Mapping the Atari
OSS MAC-65 & DDT - Manual
OSS MAC-65 ToolKit - Manual
DOS 2.5 - Manual (XF551)
Turbo-BASIC XL - Expanded Documentation
Writer's Tool - Manual
