Mangia-Boy #1 Posted February 8, 2016 At the moment I try to improve my Robotron scores. I play the one joystick version. I have the greatest problems every 5th round when the brains appear. What's the best method to avoid death by the lightnings ?
+save2600 #2 Posted February 8, 2016 Yeah, shoot them as quickly as you can before they fire! lol Seriously, if you don't have a joystick coupler which turns this good game into a great game, can always have a second player firing away as you run and dodge! JonnyBritish #6 Posted February 8, 2016 Also grab the humans as quickly as you can to rack up some extra lives - robotron 2084 with dual joystick is awesome on the 7800
+wongojack #7 Posted February 9, 2016 In the arcade version, the brains will all be pursuing a single family member. I don't know if they do this on the 7800, but it is as if there is a queue for who they want to turn first, and one of the family members is at the top of the queue. If you can figure out which family member it is and "protect" him/her then you can stop them from turning the other members to more brains. That can get a little tricky, so perhaps a more reliable strategy is just to find the biggest concentration of brain guys before play starts and go right for them blasting away. An arcade play technique is to "waggle" the firing around a diagonal direction; quickly moving the firing between the diagonal and the cardinal directions immediately to the left and right. So if you imagine the 8 directions as being numbered going clockwise, you could describe this as waggling the firing between positions 2 & 1 then 2 & 3. You cover a large section of the playfield this way and can move around more freely. I'll add that I've gone many times looking for tips, but it doesn't really seem to help me much. I think I'm still stuck in the 200k range for a high score. (MAME)
