17 years later, MB microvision complete, mixture of US,DE,UK,FR games

Recommended Posts

US MB microvision with Block Buster, enclosed is a Business Card from David Vetter, Senior Project Engineer Advanced Electronics Milton Bradley Company.

Back of the card written: Merry Christmas I've already put fresh batteries inside.

Top row: USA games, Cosmic Hunter, Vegas Slots, Baseball, Star Trek, Mindbuster

Next row: German games, Bowling, Shooting Star (Star Trek), Pinball, UK game Connect 4

Next row: German games, See Duell (Sea Duel), Blitz (Alien Raiders), France Super Casse Brique, US unboxed, Connect Four

Maye I still get a Alien Raiders, because Blitz doesn't quite fit, at least See Duell you could guess it's Sea Duel.

Anyway, happy to have finally completed the collection. And maybe I should get a European cib microvision too.

I like the Microvision. One reason is it's pretty easy to get a complete set... although there are varying degrees of "completeness" as you well know. Personally, I went for the complete CIB NA set, and also one each of the EU games CIB (1-8). I don't really care that I don't have each game from each EU country. I am missing a few items, including an EU system box, but oh well.

As for the games, my favorites are Pinball and Bowling.

Very nice! I've considered adding a Microvision to my collection, but it seems to be somewhat difficult to find one in proper working condition at a good price. Especially if you don't know what you're doing... and I definitely do not!

Well it isn't very hard.

The Microvision main failure is the screen,t hat is extremely prone to LCD rot.

Don't bother buying a Microvision that was left under the hot sun in a garage sale in summer. you're 90% sure that the screen would have leaked from overheating. Yes, they are THAT fragile.

The Microvision require either one or two 6LR6 batteries, which can be annoying since you don't generally have them with you. Note that the models that requires one battery still have the second battery room and electric tabs, so it can appears that all Microvision require two batteries, when in fact most doesn't.

So if you wanna buy a Microvision, it's best to buy from a trusted seller, or to test it yourself. So you'll need two 9V batteries, and one game. If the screen display something, and if the unit make some beeps, you're all set.

For the games, check if the buttons on the facade are broken or missing.

It's not too hard.

It's the 'trusted seller' part that I'm stuck on. I'm completely fine with having some 9V lying around for testing, but I've never seen one in a local shop (just a bunked-up copy of Phaser Strike). That leaves me with a bunch of Ebay dudes who're selling 'untested' (which I wont buy on this one) or want more than I can pay.

It's something I eye around for from time to time, but I've yet to find an option I'm willing to commit to.

In the least, I'd make sure there were several good "screen" shots of the system provided.

You should ask on Atariage or look on Graigs list.

I bough my Microvision boxed, like new, on a French high visibility site (kinda like Amazon in style) for 20E, plus 3 games for 10€ each (boxed).

The Microvision isn't that so much looked after in the US that prices can be that unreasonable for a tested unit?

I haven't been looking very long, just a few months... the biggest problem is, I don't usually see tested units at all! Which, of course, is a big ol' red flag on a portable- it's not that hard to find 9V batteries, so I assume untested means 'I don't want to tell you it's broken'. My local area is a little thick with used game retailers- which works against me for craigslist because of all the 'come to our shop' listings (plus I have no car, so driving to meet someone doesn't work.) I might put out an ask here, but only after I have some money specifically set aside for one. It's one thing to wait for next payday on an ebay buy-it-now, they'd never know... it's another thing entirely to ask for something, but not be able to pay right away. I don't want to be that guy.
