Scorponok #1 Posted February 22, 2016 Just like the countless Boxed Jaguar games I've purchased in the past, I did the same for Defender 2000. It is one of the few Original Atari games retrofitted for the Jaguar system. When I usually receive a jaguar game in its original box it includes a cardboard, factory prefolded container with the games artwork plastered all over it. This one game in particular arrived differently. Back in the day you could rent games from blockbuster and the like. Well defender came in a clear plastic case with a the logo and back art folded inside. The case snaps open and shut just like old rental cases. It's not a custom (or at least it doesn't seem like one) as the insert for the box art looks professionally done and has been there for awhile (let's just say I can tell it's been this way since 1995). Is this a common occurance? Is this certain box/container type rare or collectible? There is a certain sense of nostalgia seeing this thing. Let me know if anyone has received the same thing or if I've been royally ripped off for buying something under the guise: Game includes original box and instruction booklet l. Thanks for your time! Scorponok #3 Posted February 22, 2016 You buy it from a kevincal auction? Amazon. But the guys account looks like a small game dealership business
Trooper Galactus #4 Posted February 22, 2016 I'd say high probability it's a custom case done by a collector or a rental store that liked the games to look really pimp on their shelves.
JaguarBrett #5 Posted February 22, 2016 Hard to say without seeing pics but more than likely a really nice custom box. Post a pic if you are able!

Well it actually kind of looks cool. This is proof that you could actually rent Jaguar games at one point in time. Lol
Scorponok #7 Posted February 22, 2016 Also Defender 2000? Something as rare as that was for rent? It's a slice of game history. I guess I could be pissed that the dealer technically lied in the description (or he didn't know any better) and this box sticks out from all the other game boxes. But I'm actually liking it. I'd say custom case by a collector or just somebody who does it as a side business is the likelihood, but don't discount the possibility of a really good local game rental store. There were a rare few that had Jaguar games and systems for rent back then, and Defender 2000 was rare, but certainly available from 1995 on to anybody who really wanted it. I'm just not aware of any special edition case from the manufacturer...really, that type of thing didn't happen back then very often.
Scorponok #10 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll post a picture soon. One more thing...is there supposed to be a psychedelic port of pong on the Defender cart? This game is amazing. It comes with 4 games! Defender classic Defender plus Defender 2000 Acid trip seizure pong! Atlantis #11 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Yeah rental cases are cool. This one is from 1995: There's been a couple of them sold at a Swedish auction place, here is Ultra Vortek in Swedish rental case. Look, scroll down to the bottom of page for info:http://www.tradera.com/item/301704/251491468/ultra-vortex-atari-jaguar-hyrutgava-komplettHa ha, not only did you need to own a Jaguar, you have to be Swede and in the mood to rent, I guess this game got rented 0 times LOL ! +doctorclu #12 Posted February 22, 2016 Classic Defender is a blast. I've played that a lot. Defender 2000 is too busy and you really need a screen twice as large. Defender Plus is just unfinished.

Scorponok #16 Posted February 23, 2016 Ya i figured you would bro here some cool pic's Bubsy Raiden and BK2! Well its pointless to post a picture now. These cases look exactly like mine. Sure it was custom but it was done back in 1995. However I can't shake the feeling that this is technically a rip off.
Scorponok #17 Posted February 23, 2016 Classic Defender is a blast. I've played that a lot. Defender 2000 is too busy and you really need a screen twice as large. Defender Plus is just unfinished. Defender plus is a fun and trippy alternative. It seems finished enough for me to enjoy. Classic Defender annoys me because you can only go in one direction. Defender 2000 is specifically designed to utilize the games powerups. When you learn to use the pace effectively and your sporting a force field and two friendly zapper you really can accomplish anything.
