Shock Vision games are ROM variants

Recommended Posts

Thanks for digging those videos out. They look identical to the original versions in terms gameplay... Did I miss something though?

I contacted the guy that posted the videos and he did it because he is selling the console + the carts. At the zaxxon video comments on you tube he replied my comments with the shop links. 1.000,00 BRL (250 USD) . 1 console + 15 loose carts. I don't have all this available now.

Is it just me, or does that seem very reasonable for something like this?

Hmm... So I guess the adapter houses the memory mapper and the carts are just ROMs. Interesting way to do this...

Looks like only Mission X has a different title screen. I think this is actually the first time I have plugged these in. Took some cleaning to get them going.

Other than what's been shown in pics already, I have River Raid, Beamrider, Pinball, Star Strike, Boxing and Basketball and another one with a scratched off label that I guess I'm going to have to try out.

I hereby suggest that if for some reason people don't want to lend these out, that we make this happen at PRGE in October. I'm sure there's nothing groundbreaking but it would be pretty amazing if even minor gameplay variants turned up. I'm sure "someone" could be found to look at the disassembled ROMs and see what kinds of changes were made, if any, beyond title screens.

Like Toby, I've never actually tried any of these out. :)

Yah I'd be fine bringing mine with me since I'm driving. Between Toby and I we have a pretty good sample size.

I think cmart should connect the ECS, Intellivoice, two shockvision adapters and then the shockvision game cartridge. Just for the sake of it...

Lol!

We just have to make sure that one of the resident archivists also attends. *looks at pimpmaul*

I can't see these Shockvision games ever being legal ....they seem like pirate carts despite appearing to be official.

Completely right. They were pirat..coffcoffcoff "produced" in a weird time without any legal authorization. It was a kind of consensus those time , many companies "producing" garage cartidges from Intv, VCS and etc. What impress me is that they seem to use a regular rom chip (much easier to copy in series) , the reason why there is an adapter and we have difficulties to reproduce this method even now. That's why I asked for a inside picture.

Oh, they're totally pirate carts. They remind me of the Zellers 2600 games - they kinda-sorta look legal, but of course were anything but.

Wow -- that is awesome. If possible, could you share pictures? How many consoles did they do this kind of thing for?

Ideally, we'll be able to collect scans and screen shots (and ROM dumps) to document this stuff. Years ago I started collating data for this for my website, but didn't have enough to go on. So, whatever information you may have in addition to the cartridges would be awesome.
