Also, is there likely to be any future firmware releases for UltimateCart ?

It's open source, anyone could update or release new firmware. The 'latest' firmware was released fairly early on in the carts lifetime, XEX running was added and then there was a fix to that. It has been updated once since but I don't know if the change was even accepted. If you can run XEX files, you almost certainly have the latest firmware. Thanks, yes I can run XEX files, and I have joystick control of the menus, so that answers my question, looks like I already have the latest version. Has anyone else in the user community written any alternate firmwares for Ultimate Cart? ATR file support is the main thing it is lacking I feel. Haven't yet found the time to set up a PC to do it, Windows 10 doesn't make me want to try.
Kyle22
Will this stuff run on 7 or XP?
Mr Robot
The oldest version of Quartus that works requires a minimum of Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit)
Kyle22
That's great news. Win 7 is a hell of a lot LESS confusing than WinBlows 10. :)
_The Doctor__
it can eat a lot of hard drive real estate up to install, make sure you have plenty of space. Edited August 23, 2019 by _The Doctor__

ascrnet
I once installed Quartus on debian 9.0 and it works fine, but I didn't understand how to test the generated firmware before passing it to the cartridge ? regards
xrbrevin
put it on the cart then test it. if it fails, erase!

Let's make a new firmware for the Ultimate! In my opinion it has a lot of potential as hardware.
xrbrevin
how unfeasible is ATR support? i guess it would already be on there if it was do-able?

I don't really care about the feature, as it is badly implemented in other cartridges. That's why SIO2SD is fine. I would rather like the ultimate to support some other bank switching and have the search for example.
xrbrevin
yes, ATR does seem more reliable via SIO...
Kyle22
.ATR is ROCK SOLID on the Hard Disk using the Loader w. Jon's BIOS. This, of course, only applies to U1M and Incognito users. Mr Robot
My prototype case for the Ultimate cart looks OK but it has some design issues so I'm going to have to start over.
+CharlieChaplin
But the case looks very good! Let me know when you have a few cases ready, so I can order two of them with the labels/stickers that you showed above...
