Does anyone know where I can find a 5200 or 7800 for $5-$20?

Recommended Posts

I meant a working one with joystick ports. And besides, I managed to find a 2600 Jr. with 22 games for $5! :)

Maybe you'll get lucky and find one at a thrift for that price, or have excellent timing on a newly listed one on Ebay with a BIN.

There's no thrift shop near where I live, and if I find one on eBay with a low BIN, my dad will say I have to pay for it with my own money. And the problem is, I'm near broke at $2.

Oh, BTW,

QUIT TEASING ME!!!

You set yourself up for it :D . On the serious side, the cheapest I got for a 7800 was $8 at a yard sale. That might be your best bet.

Same here, I worked my ass off delivering newspapers and stacking grocery store shelves to buy my C64 Floppy drive when I was 14.

Unless I've lived in strange spots of the country, paper routes by bicycle/walking are a thing of the past (and have been for years) as all newspapers deliveries I've seen here in Tampa and in Chicago are motor-route delivery only. And I don't know of any state that allows 14yr olds to have a drivers license.

You can't even go around the neighborhood trying to mow lawns anymore with all the Lawn Care companies in existance. Want to try Baby Sitting? You got to compete with licensed Day Care Centers.

Tis a different world we live in today.. no where near as easy for the young to make money today as when I was growing up.

Florida is 15 and there are several midwestern states where the age to have a restricted driver's license is 12. As for the making money thing, I made money mowing people's lawns, walking dogs, housesitting, babysitting and shoveling snow. My parents never gave me an allowance. My spending money was always earned by me.

I was walking beans by the age of 12 to pay for my Commodore stuff. If you don't know what "walking beans" is, trust me it's a hot, sweaty, dirty, miserable job. You go down row after row of soybeans in the field looking for weeds, and when you see 'em, you pull 'em.

Please don't give me this "I'm too young to have a job" stuff. I am only 13, but you do not see me asking for practically free game systems. It's not very hard to make money. Sell things on eBay, mow lawns, etc. That's how most of my money is made, selling things on eBay. I also do a small amount of making certain adapters and things.

I just really don't believe the "I'm too young to make money" stuff I guess :ponder:

And I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to help you find some ways to make money. :)

Walking beans?? Glad to see some one else here got to experience this one. I never got paid for walking beans... my dad said it was to pay for my room & board.

My big moneymaker was detassling corn... did that for six or seven summers in a row starting when I was 12. Then I moved on to barn painting...

Ah yes, memories of growing up on a farm.

My first Atari (a 5200) was given to me by my grandparents. They used to frequent garage sales on about a daily basis when I was younger. Do you have any friends/relatives that do this? Put the word out to them and see what shows up!

Well, I talked to my mom about getting a job (the little ones), and she said I'll have to wait for my dad to get home. Perhaps this will be an intriguing development. I can't wait! And you're 13 too, IceCold? How come your parents let you sell stuff on eBay? You have to be 18 to an eBay ID. :ponder:

I think my parents knew there was no way in hell I would do it UNLESS they paid me. The first year I got $3.50 an hour, but by the time I quit doing it I was getting $5.50 or $6.00. They actually paid me that rate + whatever for taxes, and then took out the whatever and left me with the even dollar amount.

At this one I absolutely drew the line. I didn't hit my growth spurt until late anyway, and even at six feet I would still have had to stretch to get the tassles (my parents corn grew TALL). Considering how thick the canopy of corn plants is at full growth and how it feels like an African jungle under it on a hundred degree day, plus the way they scratch up your arms if you wear anything other than a long sleeve shirt (which makes you even HOTTER) I flat out refused. They couldn't offer me enough money to do it. Beanwalking I'd happily do by comparison.

I'm just glad we never had any livestock. :D

Bravo!

I mow some people in my family's yards and sell on ebay and that's all the money I need for now...then this summer I will be old enough for a REAL job, :D

heh.

I used to caddy at a local golf course when I was 14 till I was old enough to work summers at the local amusement park. Getting up at 4am to walk a mile in the dew to be first in line so I could be guaranteed a trip out blew. All to save up for a DeLorean that I wouldn't be able to drive anyway. :P

fwiw, I got my 7800 for $18 at a local flea market.
