roland p #1 Posted February 28, 2016 This looks nice for handheld emulators/pc-gaming: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/a-laptop-fitting-in-your-pocket--2#/
Asaki #2 Posted February 28, 2016 Might be cool, especially if they allow a bit of freedom regarding which OS(es) can be installed. $500 retail price seems a bit steep, though. And 1280x720 means no 2x scaling for 640x480 =( 320x200 will be windowboxed at 3x. The Pandora looked awesome, but turned out to be a niche market, and devs abandoned it pretty quickly. I have an Asus Eee PC 701, it's really nice, but you can't exactly hold it like a controller:
Flojomojo #3 Posted February 28, 2016 If the GPD XD is anything to go by: - the controllers will be very nice (they use the Vita joystick in that one, and the GPD Win looks like the same thing) - it won't really be $500, it will be closer to the $300 they're asking here I would bet it will turn into a mainstream thing you can just buy in an online store, like the GPD XD. I wouldn't put money into their crowdfunding campaign, but this is a real company and I think the product is very feasible.
Asaki #4 Posted February 29, 2016 That's cool. Seems like Nintendo would have sued them over that d-pad, though Still a shame about the screen resolution, though. They definitely didn't have older games in mind. I wonder how it will handle heat.
roland p #5 Posted February 29, 2016 I think 1280x720 is ok since you can triple everything (320x240). There will always be a resolution that will scale 'bad'. It would be cool if they put a retina screen in it, just for good scaling of low resolutions
Keatah #6 Posted February 29, 2016 I'd only change two things, a replaceable battery and higher screen resolution. I wonder how it stacks up to the new R Pi-3 ??
roland p #7 Posted March 1, 2016 I'd only change two things, a replaceable battery and higher screen resolution. I wonder how it stacks up to the new R Pi-3 ?? Not sure if they are comparable. One executes ARM code and the other x86 code.
Keatah #8 Posted March 1, 2016 I do not enough enough about ARM to make a comment. I was kinda thinking overall when I asked how it stacked up. Graphics speed, sound, memory speeds. Layperson non-tech terms..
Asaki #9 Posted March 1, 2016 I think 1280x720 is ok since you can triple everything (320x240). Yeah, but 640x480 stuff will be teeny, with a huge windowbox.
TPA5 #10 Posted March 1, 2016 Looks interesting, being able to switch to a sort of mouse-mode would make playing classic PC games feasible on it. The keyboard looks miserable to use, so their claims that you could do office work on it are kind of bogus. But who cares, it's not really designed for that. For emulators and classic games, it actually looks pretty rad. Don't know if I'd plunk 300 bones down without even seeing some videos of a physical product, but at least GPD is an established company, not some fly-by-night operation. roland p #11 Posted March 1, 2016 I just found some threads here: http://boards.dingoonity.org/gpd-devices/
TonyD #12 Posted March 3, 2016 As the others have said, it looks really interesting. I like the idea of a integrated game controller but for $300, hmmmm not too sure for what looks like is basically a Win10 netbook. But good luck to them I hope they achieve their campaign goal.
