Opcode Games Signs Exclusive Distribution Agreement With AtariAge

MILFORD, Feb. 25, 2016 – Opcode Games today announced that Opcode Games and AtariAge entered into an exclusive distribution agreement under which AtariAge is entitled to distribute Opcode Games games and hardware worldwide starting March 2016.

Under the terms of the agreement, AtariAge will be the exclusive worldwide distributor for the ColecoVision line of games and hardware from Opcode Games, including the Super Game Module and such games as Lady Bug Arcade, Pac-Man Collection SGM and Gradius. As a result, Opcode customers looking for the latest ColecoVision releases will now enjoy an easier and more seamless experience when shopping from the AtariAge Store. AtariAge customers, on the other hand, will benefit from the convenience of shopping for their favorite platforms from a single source.

“Opcode Games is committed to producing the best ColecoVision games and hardware, while AtariAge is the leading online provider of games and accessories for Atari-era consoles,” said Eduardo Mello, president and co-owner of Opcode Games. “By leveraging AtariAge infrastructure and experience in selling homebrew games, we can now offer our customers an even smoother experience, while at the same time allowing us to concentrate on what we do best, creating games.”

The first two ColecoVision titles from Opcode Games available at AtariAge Store will be Penguin Adventure and Gradius.

About Opcode Games

Opcode Games is a leading developer and publisher of ColecoVision games and hardware. Since its first game, Space Invaders Collection released in 2003, Opcode Games has helped set the standards for homebrew releases, being one of the first publishers in retrogaming to offer a complete packaging with its games. After a hiatus of 3 years, Opcode Games is now preparing for a busy 2016, with 6 high quality games planned and a new version of its highly popular Super Game Module.

AtariAge is a respected publisher of high-quality homebrew games, releasing over ten new titles in 2015, and several new titles are planned for release in 2016.

Now we can start answering a few questions:

About the special editions pre-order: in case you participate on the special edition pre-order for Penguin Adventure and Gradius, you will be sent a link to complete the pre-order at the AtariAge Store. Pre-order for that third game will be completed in a later date, but if you pre-ordered, your pre-order is still safe,

Super Game Module: details about the 3rd run will be revealed soon. You will be able to order through AtariAge. In addition to that, PSGs for the 2nd run are in their way, and will be shipping as soon as we get those. We placed the order in January, but had a number of delays due to the Chinese New Year, truly a nightmare. We apologize for the little extra delay.

Pac-Man Collection and Space Invaders Collection: to be re-released this year, with added SGM support. Again, you will be able to order from AtariAge store.

Penguin Adventure: the issues with Paypal delayed our plans quite a bit. Because of that we have no option but to delay Penguin Adventure until June. That is the side effect of producing things in China, we have to order everything well in advance. Other games haven't been affected though.

That is all for now. Glad to get things rolling again. :)

Congrats on your partnership with AtariAge!

Aside from that, how do you expect AtariAge to be able to handle distribution of DKA without the Big N stepping in and squashing it as they have done in the past with a certain 2600 game?

That is exactly the question i had. DKA and other game under licenses. Like the Konami ones. AtariAge is very visible. That's good and bad...

Will the pre-orders still be under the same pricing with free shipping?

Excellent question. First of all, we believe in quality and good value. Starting with Penguin Adventure, we will be offering what I believe are some great games, using a brand new cartridge that is beyond anything currently available for the CV, a collector grade packaging that is fully offset printed, and now a shopping experience that is truly first rate. And by offloading the distribution end of things to AtariAge, we will be able to focus on making new and better hardware and software for the ColecoVision, All of that costs money. Albert has his operational costs to keep the AA Store running, he pays PayPal fees, taxes, servers, etc. And we have our operational costs too, mainly manufacturing. So we had no option but to raise our prices a bit to accommodate those extra operational costs. Penguin Adventure and Gradius will now cost $50. Additionally we unfortunately can no longer offer free shipping, since there is no way for Albert to absorb that. We apologize and will try to make up for that by offering you superior quality.

What will be the upgrades for these games? Are you going to add the option for turbo speed to PMC?

Unfortunately we aren't ready to talk about that yet, but hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.

Who will be printing the boxes, Opcode or AA store?

AtariAge is our distributor. We are still publishing the games ourselves, which means we are still in charge of manufacturing.

Just wanted to check with the preorder my money was never refunded, so the link I get will let me order without having to pay?

All pre-orders will eventually get a refund and be redirected to the AA Store. And you don't need to worry, your pre-order is safe.

We have discussed that and have come up with a plan. Just please make sure you subscribe to our newsletter. ;)

Can you please post the link again? Not that *I* personally need it, but having it posted as many times as possible is not a bad idea for when the eventual person comes along and says they had "no idea about subscribing to the newsletter." ;)

Will your new games support the Juicebox SGM? :P <<<ducks>>>

After the latest Pissbox fiasco, I would imagine Opcode would go out of the way to make sure new games won't work at all. Other people who plan to use SGM in their new games should try the same as well.
