I don't have many currently as some are hard to find but I loved pretty much everything by Lucasarts. I was big on XWing and Tie Fighter, also Full Throttle and the other Scumm adventure games. One of my favorite racing games was Stunt Driver by Spectrum Holobyte. I played the hell outta that game in the early 90's. Also remember many gaming sessions of the original Ancient Art of War. I'm sure my wife at that point would divorce me and my kids (and their children) would never see me, and it would end up not going well... so that'll probably never happen. But I'm so big on the DOS era that I've got two Case-Logic CD bags (250 CDs each) with every DOS game I could possibly find. Most of them are the "Collectors Edition" or "Collection CD" or whatever... because the vast majority of them never came on CD originally... only in the re-release. There are so many... The Origin games (Ultima and Wing Commander) The Sierra games (Space / Police / Kings - Quest, Leisure Suite Larry, Outpost, Alien Legacy, etc...) Star Control 1/2/3 AD&D Gold Box Series (Champions of Krynn, Pool of Radiance, etc...) Mech Warrior 2/3 man... the list goes on. Even before then, I used to play Battle Chess on mom's 286 machine in the late 80's. Once I got my own PC a year or two after college ("trading up" - hah! - from my trusty 1040ST), I spent a lot of hours playing SimEarth, SimCity, Doom/Doom II, the officially-licensed AD&D dungeon crawlers, the SSI naval warfare simulators, so on, moving on through great shooters like Quake, Hexxen and others, finally culminating for me in the FPS adventure Unreal and the spinoff shooter Unreal Tournament ... My last PC game purchase was in the early '04/'05 time frame when Steam was just starting out. I bought Half-Life 2; ironically, a number of years ago when Steam released a Mac client, my HL2 purchase was in my game library when I logged in and I was able to download it cross-platform. Yes a 5" monitor on which C64 games look different ; played on a "normal sized" TV or monitor, they seemed to be much more pixelized (but some details so small !). I remember that Adventure Construction Set was nicer on SX monitor, but you had to push contrast and luminosity to see well enough the contruction kit menus ! I know I grew up with Lode Runner, Falcon, and Arctic Fox among others. These were all available on other platforms, but they were what were available to a Montana kid around 1989. I also liked text adventures, such as the stellar Enchanted Castle and (what I didn't even know at the time was) an excellent but incomplete shareware RPG called Dungeons of Kairn. I hang at VOGONS for all that. So much info in those threads. https://www.vogons.org/ The 1990s were easily my favorite years for DOS. The 80s were the great Commodore age for me. C64 and Amiga ruled that decade IMO. Current DOS titles I am revisiting and loving: Azrael's Tear (very strange RPG) Deathkarz (insane racing shooter with no guard rails) Amok (great voxel landscaped mech shooter) Scorcher (nasty hard futuristic racer) The main thing I loved about all the above titles? Especially Darkmoon, with a fabulous "ambiance", as for the true successor : Lands of Lore. There was a text adventure called "Enchanted Castle" that was a great father-son bonding thing for me back in the late 80s. almightytodd Posted August 8, 2016 Share Posted August 8, 2016 (edited) I didn't play it BITD, but when I got into DOSBox I discovered a game called, "Outer Ridge" - sort of a first person perspective/3D Asteroids. Games I played BITD included Prince of Persia, Tetris, and of course DOOM and the games of that genre that followed... Hexen, Descent, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, and Redneck Rampage. I loved the way Moonshine would take away your pain in Redneck Rampage, but if you drank too much the screen would tilt, and you couldn't walk in a straight line... So cool.
