Tifany #1 Posted April 23, 2003 Has anyone ever come up with a fix for all the weird stuff MESS does with 7800 emulation? I can never get Ikari Warriors or Kung Fu Master to get past the title screens and Xenophobe gets all flashy on me. I know there a few other freaky things it does i just cant think of em right now! So... anyone been working on a fix or do we just suffer though crappy emulation?
+Mitch #2 Posted April 24, 2003 Which version of MESS are you running? Different version have different problems. For instance, Choplifter is a game that worked fine in the past but has problems in the last few releases. Dan Boris would be the guy to ask about updates, since he pretty much wrote the entire 7800 section. I don't think he has had much time to work on it recently though. Tifany #3 Posted April 24, 2003 Im running MESS .65 right now I think theres a newer version out, but im scared it may be worse than the last one!
+Mitch #4 Posted April 24, 2003 Yeah, 67 is the latest but it actually is worse than 66. Since Ikari Warriors partially worked in 66 and is broken again in 67. I can't remember how it worked in 65, does it lock up right at the start? If so, try hitting "reset" on the menu at the top and see if that gets it going. Tifany #5 Posted April 24, 2003 Kewl! That reset trick works great for Ikari Warriors and Klax! Unfortunatly it just makes things worse for kung fu master (at least on my machine!) Thanks for that little tidbit of info! I guess I'll stick with the mess version i have untill they finally figure out all the 7800 stuff. Actually thats all i use mess for... well, the occasional SMS game when im in the mood fer somthing a bit different. thanks again!
JohnnyBlaze #6 Posted April 24, 2003 First off,I am proud to hear that at least there is someone other than myself that loves the 80's(IT ROCKS!) Second of all,Do you have the 7800 bios rom? It might help.MESS in itself isn't as good as say...MAME. But it does suck that there isn't another 7800 emulator out there that we can use. If they can make an emulator for the Game Boy Advance, they should make one for the 7800!
DanBoris #7 Posted April 24, 2003 So... anyone been working on a fix or do we just suffer though crappy emulation? I am happy to see people so interested in 7800 emulation, but it really discourages me when I see statements like this. Myself and others have put 100's of hours of work into getting the 7800 emulation to where it is now. Sure it's not perfect, but at least there is something available. I am not actively working on MESS right now, but hopefully myself or someone else will get around to fixing these problems at some point in the future. Tifany #10 Posted April 24, 2003 Dan, i really do appreciate all the hard work and many many hours that you and all the other folks put into the 7800 emulation. I never meant to offend you in any way, and im sorry if I discouraged you. I really do love the 7800 emu, and its a wonderful to try out the games that i havent got or just to avoid having to hook up my game system. Somedays i just get a bit frustrated when things dont work... im sure weve all been there! Again I apologize, and I hope you keep up the great work that youve done so far
