HoshiChiri #151 Posted June 27, 2016 No, no Playstations. Out of curiosity- why not?
+sramirez2008 #152 Posted June 27, 2016 Vectrex. I don't know that I'll ever get one, since the prices are getting pretty high now.
zetastrike #153 Posted June 28, 2016 I don't have much left on my list. All I can think of is a 3DO FZ-10 and a Dreamcast. Anything else I don't have, I'm pretty content to emulate unless someone just offered it to me.
Andromeda Stardust #154 Posted June 28, 2016 Great topic! I have recently picked up two of my most-wanted consoles, the Fairchild Channel F and the Vectrex, so I'm feeling pretty satiated at the moment. However, while I don't *need* them, I've been pretty strongly tempted by the Bally Astrocade, the Sega Master System, and the Dreamcast. I just don't really have the space, since most of my collection is computer-based. The Astrocade is just a bit too fragile for me, I don't need the SMS since I have a Genesis with Everdrive (but it's just such a great-looking system!), and the Dreamcast is a little modern for my collecting bug (but it's so great!). I'm sort of mildly drawn to systems like the 3DO, but ultimately I don't have much nostalgia for those. My current consoles: Fairchild Channel F (System II) - multicart on the way Atari VCS - with Harmony flashcart Vectrex - with Richard F. flashcart Colecovision (well, the Coleco Adam) - with Atarimax flashcart Nintendo NES - with Everdrive flashcart Sega Genesis (first gen) - with Everdrive flashcart XBox (first gen) XBox 360 Nintendo Wii Xbox One No, no Playstations. I noticed you are missing the SNES. The holy trinity of SNES, Genesis/MD, and Turbo/PC is where it's at. Console gaming was definitely at it's finest during the early 90s. Also congrats on securing a Vex..
hafner #155 Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) I noticed you are missing the SNES. The holy trinity of SNES, Genesis/MD, and Turbo/PC is where it's at. Console gaming was definitely at it's finest during the early 90s. Also congrats on securing a Vex.. Thanks! Yes, I kind of picked the consoles that I played back in the day - in the 8-bit era it was the NES, but in the 16-bit era it was the Genesis. I have basically zero time on the SNES (including emulation) so I think I have some fun discoveries in front of me. :-) This is also the answer to why I don't have any Playstations (as asked above). It's a glaring omission in my collection, but the truth is that I never have really been part of the Playstation community. I was a PC gamer during the first Playstation era, I was an Xbox gamer (and my friends were Xbox gamers as well) during the PS2 era, and I continued on to be a 360 and Xbone gamer from then. I know the Playstations have fantastic libraries, but I just haven't ventured into that world yet - and frankly there are so many games that it'd be daunting to get started. atarifanboi #156 Posted June 28, 2016 The main reason I didn't go down the Playstation route is that I just didn't like the controller, and that let me to go to the XBox after my Dreamcast (Both of which I still own ) I do have a 2000 series PSP if that counts? Andromeda Stardust #157 Posted June 28, 2016 Playstation controllers aren't bad. I rather like them, both the dual shock design and the original digital pad.
Professor Gull #158 Posted June 28, 2016 During the Playstation release I made the jump to own a Saturn which promptly made me too poor to buy a Playstation but luckily my roomate bought one so I got experience with both. 16 bit though that gen for me was all Turbo and Genny....no SNES was ever in my ownership but I did play one when at friends houses as such though. No desire to get into SNES though and the Vetrex want is waning quickly unless I sell off something else or find it in the wild.
atarifanboi #159 Posted June 29, 2016 Playstation controllers aren't bad. I rather like them, both the dual shock design and the original digital pad. I'm sure they're not, but for some reason I just couldn't get on with them, maybe I have different length thumbs......
Andromeda Stardust #160 Posted June 29, 2016 I'm sure they're not, but for some reason I just couldn't get on with them, maybe I have different length thumbs...... I used to use the digital PS1 pad with a Super Joy Playstation to USB converter for PC use long before RetroUSB started selling USB and Game Cube adapters for NES/SNES controllers, and much later products like the NES30/FC30 BT controllers largely replaced my need for those. I got very used to the split Dpad design on the Playstation controllers, and even the dual shock PS2 models had much more usable Dpads than either the Game Cube or Xbox. BTW, I have long fingers and fairly large hands, so devices like the GBA-SP were frustrating and painful for me to use. I bought my GBA in 2004 and the constant trigger use in Mario Kart Super Circuit was excruciating until I shut if off in pain. I quickly went out and bought an older wide GBA while it was still on clearance and used it with a worm light. I exclusively played my GBA games on the DS Phat after it first came out, because the form factor was much more comfortable. The SP wasn't as bad for GB games that did not use the triggers, as I could stretch my index fingers beneath the upper screen. When the GBA Micro came out with no backwards compatibility, I just laughed...
Punisher5.0 #161 Posted June 30, 2016 A fully functional M2 preproduction system with the awesome looking N64 esque controllers. At one point I had a M2 prototype (real one with PPC processor) but you needed to hook it up to a computer to use it).
