+Special Teams #152 Posted April 24, 2016 Nope. I admit that I had forgotten about David's non-loyal, non-routine customers. Eric, it's ok to admit when you're wrong - it's a healthy thing to do. JasonlikesINTV #157 Posted April 24, 2016 And I will admit when I'm wrong. But in this case, I had just forgotten. I got a speeding ticket today. Tried to explain to the police I had simply forgotten the speed limit was 60mph, not 85 like I was driving, but he kept insisting I was "wrong". Games For Your Intellivision #168 Posted April 25, 2016 "Whenever they feel like it" sounds so selfish of them. Selfishness is not a virtue. And it's not the same as before, by the way. The pace "before" was much slower, to allow those who wanted a full homebrew collection to have one. I don't think that was the reason for the 'slow pace'...it was more like the number of skilled people who could write a new game was pretty much limited to Carl, Joe and Arnauld......then joined by Ryan and Mike Hayes.....and then from there expanded. No one ever said 'Now, we want everyone who wants to have a full homebrew collection to be able to have one, so let's not make too many games too fast!'. In fact when Chris N. and crew started making Intelligentvision games, they were totally guessing on how many would sell. Chris was hoping he wouldn't be stuck with dozens of unsold games. They could not reprogram the cartridges. The original Intelligentvision games actually have 4 games on them. They are jumpered to select the one that sold. If you jumper your Stonix, it might be a 4tris for example. Joe can fill people in on what games made it on to what roms. The total guesses on how much demand there was resulted in too few copies in some cases. (100 4 tris copies versus 250 Stonix)... That's the nature of homebrew. These days, you can reprogram the boards, so making additional copies isn't a problem, but people still make limited runs because they don't want to be stuck with copies. Pretty tough for those with OCD, but making these games isn't cheap. When talking about being 'selfish', keep in mind they don't want to be stuck with a lot of expensive unsold product. +freewheel #169 Posted April 25, 2016 Wow, I never realized we had an off-topic section here. And after spending a whole 5 minutes looking at those threads - I realize how little I've missed. Eric, with all due respect - using the word "selfish" to describe people who invest hundreds of hours of their time into producing a labor of love that will very likely barely break even, or at best possibly earn minimum wage, all so that other people can enjoy said product... I don't really know how to respond to this. I'll stop typing right now. Because a very expletive-filled rant is coming. Suffice it to say that you're just about the worst kind of self-centered human being there is.
AtariBrian #170 Posted April 25, 2016 Everyone has their own reason for collecting/buying whatever it is they choose to buy . Some buy every homebrew that is made . Some buy two or more of every homebrew that is made ... which I don't understand why but to each their own . I only buy homebrew games that I will enjoy playing . But unfortunately for me I buy homebrews for just about every console instead of just one so I have quite a few . Just a suggestion buy maybe buy one of each homebrew instead of two like someone suggested ?
Eric7100 #171 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) I don't think that was the reason for the 'slow pace'... That may not have been the reason for the slow pace, but it worked. It was a "perfect system" for those who wanted to own every homebrew. Now, that system is broken because of the onslaught of people like Rev who just can't space their games out properly over the years. Suffice it to say that you're just about the worst kind of self-centered human being there is. Thank you for judging me. I call it "selfish" because, as another poster suggested, these people are doing things in their own way, thinking only of themselves. They don't care about the heartache they've caused to the people who spent years with a smile on their face, because they proudly owned every homebrew, and now, THANKS TO THEM, they no longer can. Games For Your Intellivision #173 Posted April 25, 2016 That may not have been the reason for the slow pace, but it worked. It was a "perfect system" for those who wanted to own every homebrew. Now, that system is broken because of the onslaught of people like Rev who just can't space their games out properly over the years. You're just going to have to deal with it somehow. I've got two Elektronite games coming out this year. And, I know of two other games that nobody knows about that are coming out as well. I need to recoup the money I've invested. I really hope to sell enough to do that and hope that you have the money to buy one (if you want a copy)...but frankly, you personally have ZERO consideration when I look to do a release. Yeah, Rev (and others) are doing releases.....I guess to make you happy, some people should just quit. In the case of my board runs, they go into five figures. I can't just do one game and be happy with it and say.....'Well, I don't want to stress Eric, so I should just sit on these thousands of dollars worth of circuit boards'......should I? Eric7100 #174 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) Just a suggestion buy maybe buy one of each homebrew instead of two like someone suggested ? I know, man. For me, it's either this, or selling what I already have, or giving up on the whole Intellivision thing altogether (thanks, Rev) and selling my entire collection, for the sole reason that I can no longer keep up with my dream of owning every homebrew (again, thanks, Rev). Or I can keep opening up new lines of credit, getting myself further and further in debt. My point has been... and continues to be... I didn't use to HAVE to do this. But now I am forced to seek alternative arrangements. FORCED... not a positive, virtuous word at all. And going by the Stonix... Minehunter... SG&R days... it doesn't have to be, man. It doesn't have to be. THAT PACE WAS FINE. IT WASN'T BROKEN, AND IT DIDN'T NEED FIXING. Edited April 25, 2016 by Eric7100
