5200 HSC Season 9 Round 6 Pole Position

Recommended Posts

Our game for round 6 is Pole Position. Play on Namco Speedway with the 4 lap setting. The * and # keys change these settings at the title screen. Emulation is fine, as are custom controls. A8 version is allowed if that's all you have. I do not feel it gives any real advantage, having played both.

Pics preferred, but not required except for HSC wins and records.

Round ends Sunday, May 8th 2016 @9pm EST

I seem to remember having this problem before playing on emulation...I've tried Kat5200 as well as Altirra and can't get the * and # configured to change the options. Tried the A8 version too with the same problem. I will probably have to try the A8 version tomorrow on real hardware.

Ah, that fix sounds familiar...thanks...will try tomorrow.

I think you need to hit Reset first, then the # * will work.

Alot of close scores. I got stuck behind a bunch of cars near the end of lap 4, i couldn't make it to the checkered flag.

55,750

Qualify time: 60.50"

(watch on YouTube for 60fps, otherwise the red/white shoulder looks weird)

Somewhat shoddy gameplay since I used an emulator and keyboard (i.e. digital input for an analog game), but I ended up with a decent run all the same. A few questions I've wondered about:

- Is the ideal speed to shift gears from LO to HI known? I usually shift at around 80, but has anyone ever tested to see if there's a most efficient shift speed with regard to acceleration?

- Why does the game force a brief slowdown (a few mph, or whatever the speed unit is) when passing two cars simultaneously? Is it something to do with how the game handles overlapping the passing sounds generated, or... something graphics related, or... something else entirely? In one run, I briefly dropped my speed to just under the overtake speed, and the game physically would not let me accelerate to slide between two other cars on a long straight. Forgot to save that recording, unfortunately.

^ Thanks. I actually got that one on my first play of the game this week. As luck turned out, I did not need to play further this time.
