cimerians
Any devs out there, don't use the words 'Haunted House'. The Atari boys are watching you. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/04/atari-still-exists-thinks-no-one-else-can-make-a-haunted-house-game/ Some of the comments are hilarious.
Clint Thompson
I seriously laughed way too hard at this threads title, already reading a little about it already... =)
Flojomojo
"Atari" is the worst. Is this part of the natural life cycle of any tech company, then? Start in a garage, end in a law firm?

Christophero Sly
It's the nature of trademark law. You really can't blame "Atari". They either defend their trademarks or they lose them.

Yeah but....ahem...it's a joke, get it? How do you lose value in a 30+ year old "dead" product by trademarking a general widespread term like "Haunted House" or the word "candy"? Personally I'm not blaming Atari for anything. They can do whatever they want....nice entertainment for me.
SoundGammon
Gottlieb had a pinball machine called "Haunted House"! It is trademarked too!

Gabriel
I just got done trademarking the term "video games" when the term is used in discussion whether written or verbal of electronic games or in any communication about what type of entertainment a media object is categorized as. Start sending me money beyotches!!

Start sending me money beyotches!! You should go through your PC games and document every single configurable setting (resolution, difficulty, controls, etc). Count them up and put that number on the box, just like Atari did in the pre-silver-box days. I'll bet a complex MMO has "hundreds of video games!" Christophero Sly
How do you lose value in a 30+ year old "dead" product by trademarking a general widespread term like "Haunted House" or the word "candy"? It's not "dead". Atari released a Haunted House game in 2010. Edited April 25, 2016 by Christophero Sly

Newsdee
Once upon a time I was making a Flash game called Haunted House. If I ever release it I guess I need to call it Muchscare Manor now...
