Technical Question - Is it possible?

Recommended Posts

Not knowing much about the TI's internal architecture, I was wondering if it's remotely possible to use the UberCart to 'take control' of the Super AMS's extended capabilities in a 'transparent manner' to exploit it's extended memory capabilities, giving the user more usable program space without any additional programming skills.

What I was thinking is along the lines of Gazoo's XB2.7S cartridge, but instead having some sort of routine automatically 'take control' and act as a control interface between hardware and whatever version of Extended BASIC is in the cartridge. If it could be done, anyone with average programming skills could write some pretty hefty programs.

It could be kind of neat to type SIZE and get back 64K or even 128K of program space available for programs. I wonder what the average guy could do with that? Is it possible?

XBII does this with the myarc/foundation 128k card.. The interpreter does it, it loads it's loader into a supercart space and requires the extra memory to load.

RXB is closest to that but I haven't messed with it at all to understand how it uses AMS.

Thanks Greg. I'm envisioning so dang many Pie-In-The-Sky possibilities with a SAMS & UberGROM combination that it's making my head spin. I know it has the ability to take over, the menu shows us that, but there are so many different ways it could be exploited I cannot count them all.

One thing that comes to mind is when the console is turned on, the cartridge could auto-magically take control, and transfer program(s) from itself directly into the SAMS for active use immediately... without the user even pressing a button. What the contents could be is almost anything. It could provide a base for a GUI type environment, or a more primitive DOS environment, or simply just a variant of a menu system like we've been using all along, but with a few, instantly loading TSR type programs, who knows what else.
