OFFICIAL - D2K Arcade Special Edition Release Information

Recommended Posts

Same opinion as many, I cant justify spending 100 dollars for just 2 new levels and some intro screens....Already 100 dollars for a completely new game is a lot...but here we are talking about a game already released (that I bought then) but some new levels....

I think it is sad to not offer a discout or incentive to faithful customers that already bought D2K Arcade....

As a multimachine player ...yes player, I am buying homebrews to play them, not to collect them on a shelf, I cant afford it when I know that with that amount I can buy 3-4 new games in AA store...

The release details of for D2K SE does not fall on Carl, it falls to me. Carl was commissioned for this and is being paid, but he is not involved in how it is sold. Please do not hold anything against Carl.

A little under 2 hours until they are on sale.

This should be interesting and will say a lot about the Intellivision homebrew market.

I do not plan to buy because the marginal utility for me is not worth the cost, since I have Carl's three previous releases based upon the Donkey Kong franchise.

This also allows me to cease being a completionist and occasionally pass on something I feel does not have value for me.

However, for someone who does not have the previous game, the two games in one probably represents a value. Also the price means that there is a much lower chance of someone buying the game for speculative profit. In other words, no quick dumps to eBay.

Personally I feel the game is a bit over priced. But I understand market forces and recognize the good work that Soul Buster has done with respect to homebrews. I am also glad to hear Carl was well compensated for his efforts.

I am looking forward to other games as they come out this year as well so this does not mean I won't be buying new releases in the future. But I will start to ask myself "Is it worth it?" And my positive response probably will drop from 102% of the time to 98% of the time.

Eric, I'm sorry that you are not able keep up with the supply of games as your income may dictate. The passion of the Intellivision has really taken off in recent years. Who could have known it could have become this much? It is not our intent to drive anyone out. We still love you, man.

Thank you.

These versions were not much more expensive than the normal top serial releases, Elektronite is well known for premium prices for low serials. So it isnt a surprise, especially since they were the only games which got new overlays and transparent shells (even if I dont know why they are more expensive, probably they cost exactly the same).

I am more interessted in the 100$ "budget" copies. How many stock is left of them?

If I understand this correctly, D2KSE is a faithfull conversion of Jeff Kulczycki DK rom hack "D2K Jumpman Returns" (playable on mame). When I first heard of Carl's D2K (first version), I thought it would be Jeff's version. I was a little surprised to see that some of Jeff's screens were replaced with some original different screens by Carl. I guess Carl saw ways to improve on Jeff's version of an already improved DK; or maybe it was because of Intellivision's limitations. I wonder which version people prefer Carl's D2K or Jeff's D2K(D2KSE)?

Here are the features, some mentioned before some not:

Voice defaults to ON

2 Modes - Jumpman Returns mode and Intellivision D2K mode

High score saves on the cartridge - cleared by holding down the clear key while turning on until the main menu

Jumpman Returns mode includes 2 new levels.

It includes new custom climbing and How high can you get? screens

The box has Special Edition stickers added

There is a newly printed manual

The cartridge sticker is new

From what understand, the arcade hack of Jumpman Returns has 8 different stages and D2K Arcade already had 9 different stages.

Does the Jumpman Returns mode of D2K SE features 11 different stages, or is it limited to 8 different stages, in order to be more authentic to the arcade hack?

All these crazy releases sure are going to fuck collectors up in the future! Hard enough keeping track of all this shit in the here and now. Really has gotten out of hand.

Box variants, misprints, wrong/different colors, overlays or not. Varying overlays, full kit, level design changes mid-production, games with bugs, people who sent their games back in to be corrected, new levels, hacked levels, missing levels, 1st print, numbered editions, limited releases only to see limited runs years later, OY!

Should start an addendum, fold it up and keep with all the home-brews in my collection from here on out. I suggest you all do the same.

I'll be one of the old farts 30 years from now, explaining to the next gen of chimps how my copy of Intellivision Ms. Pac-Man cost $10 more than most everyone else's of the first run... why? Because I sent my cartridge in to be reprogrammed so that the 3rd ghost scores properly. :rolling:

And how did you get that Old School cartridge out of the packaging without tearing the shrink-wrap?! That little Johnny, is an upgrade "kit" released BITD due to unforeseen popular demand! Neato! lol

Out of hand, probably yes. And that is one reason why I think of "collecting" as a game. Never know what's going to pop up around the corner. I proceed at my own pace. Unregimented. Casual. Eliminates stress and the "gotta catch'em all" mentality. It is fun again, like going to Toys'R'Us in the 70's and 80's never knowing what you'll come home with! At the same time knowing I'll never have the whole store.

And this applies especially to my Apple II material as it does my emulation stuff. I just never know when I'll see an expansion card I might want. I just never know when I'll get an updated emulator or new ROM or disk image.. That's fun!

Just curious: Was that a thing? Because I bought Ms. Pac-Man and I didn't know there was a recall due to a bug. :o

Should have called it D3K and people would have been all over it. Ship the game sealed so nobody ever opens and plays it.
