icemanxp300 #51 Posted May 13, 2016 Stuff like Madden carts end up in landfills anyway....if that happens enough maybe my Madden 92 will go up in value? Not anymore.... at least I hope not. These have good use for repros Actually clean shells are more important to me these days than games. I have so many donors but shells are bad and they don't sell any decent replacement shells. All the aftermarket shells are snap and look cheap. I am seriously considering having my own mold made.
+GoldenWheels #52 Posted May 13, 2016 The retro store I used to go to in southern CT said they threw all Maddens (and Super Scope 6s) out of every lot they bought. They weren't even worth putting out. I get the repro thing but much like your Advantage math, it appeared to them it wasn't even worth putting a lot of 50 on ebay as there was no money to be made.
BydoEmpire #53 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) I think those are pretty cool, although I wouldn't personally get one. It's not like NESs or Zappers are rare, and I'm sure the people that have them love them as part of their decor so to them it's not stupid. Come on, they're video games, they're not that serious to begin with. And it's not like they're throwing systems in the trash. I have no problem with this whatsoever. imstarryeyed #54 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) We throw away lots of broken systems, controllers and items all of the time. Since we are a game store, we fix everything we can but the items we cannot we destroy and fling. We have to destroy the items or we will have dumpster divers getting items and trying to resell them to us.. ugh its so annoying to throw away items only to have some bum covered in liquids from the dumpster come around and try to sell it to you. We donate as many items as we can to any local artist who wants to create items with it. I even opened up an opportunity for an artist to turn xbox original systems into briefcases and gamecubes into purses, but no one wanted to step up and do that.. humm maybe its not a good idea..haha I am all for recycling what we can but at a gamestore space costs real money and you cannot have your space being eaten up by unfix-able items for too long. I think that lamp looks neat, not my personal taste but I can imagine some people really liking it. Edited May 13, 2016 by imstarryeyed
omegadot #55 Posted May 13, 2016 I have a busted advantage and no real proclivity when it comes to fixing that stuff. Right now it sits on a shelf and might better be served as art

Andromeda Stardust #57 Posted May 13, 2016 I much prefer the Atari joystick candle holder by the UK (?) designer Mixko from 2007. http://www.wonderlandblog.com/wonderland/2007/05/atari_candlehol.html Someone got inspired and made what I understand is an entire candle of the same shape! https://kescha66.wordpress.com/2015/03/14/atari-2600-joystick-candle/ Great way to burn your house down, with a candle holder made from flammable materials. Andromeda Stardust #58 Posted May 13, 2016 Different strokes for different folks. It's not exactly my kind of decor, but hey, if a guy can actually make a few bucks off his idea and give people who like this stuff some enjoyment, great. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and art has always been subjective. I know a lot of light pens and other gadgets only worked with the old CRT technology. Do those guns actually work with LED or LCD screens? If not, I imagine they would be pretty useless on 99 % of currently in-use TV's, so making them into lamps is better than dumping them like so many E.T. cartridges. You bring up an interesting point. I had a hard time trying to find a zapper in 2002, but persistence and daily trips to GameXChange paid off in the end. Now they got boxes full of zappers and RF modulators. Even worse, Yobo make craptastic Zapper clones to add to the pile. Peeps rather buy a flakey clone zapper than a used one that's 98% likely to work without issues. https://www.etsy.com/search?q=nintendo+lamp The rob one is cool. Not Rob. Nnoooooooooo!! It's a little of both. They aren't going out of their way to buy specific things, but they aren't likely using stuff that they already owned. Usually it's 'dig around a flea market and see what's there.' In other words, these are the guys keeping the booths that want crazy prices (like 10 bucks a zapper) going because they just see materials & have no idea what the going rate is. There's a reason those are $75-100 lamps! Art materials are not cheap either though. You've also got to think about time and effort. I've taken a few art classes in the past and the bill of materials can get astronomical.

Andromeda Stardust #60 Posted May 14, 2016 Atleast it's not this. http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/the-sequel-to-the-thermocromic-urinal-not-21-05-2011/ That is just SO WRONG! Ditto Agreed, but it is mostly Madden carts, so it's not a HUGE loss Stuff like Madden carts end up in landfills anyway....if that happens enough maybe my Madden 92 will go up in value? I remember the SNES urinal from some years ago a blog about it I think on Nintendolife or somewhere. Thing is, it's just in really, really, really, really, really bad taste. For those who might have missed the link, here's a pic: Could be worse. AVGN once used a Jag CD as a toilet. I don't know what special "recipe" he used for the browns, but I can imagine it wasn't worth the effort of cleaning up when he was done with it. I've taken a few art classes in the past and the bill of materials can get astronomical. Oh, I know- I've worked in a craft store for 13 years now. It still doesn't really justify a $100 zapper lamp, lamps are pretty simple and don't cost $40 to make. Especially if you're an upcycler already. CatPix #62 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Welll to be fair to the AVGN, he state previously that it was busted and that he had sent it to someone who (apparently, as seen in the video) even HARDWIRED the JagCD to the motherboard of the Jaguar to check all connections, so at this point the JagCD was probably really garbage. And since the Jag was seen in latter videos, he cleaned the console, at least. You can point out that in a previous video he destroyed a Sega 32X for no good reason and claimed he found the two he owns for 50 cents, which was probably a stroke of luck. He also burn a NES cart of Winter Sport or another shit like that. You can claim it was a chinese bough shell, but it probably cost more to buy a fake cart than getting the real one. He drilled a hole in another cart, tho, to be fair as well, given the place he drill a hole into, there was no PCB there so his cart is probably still working, but aesthetically damaged. And in an episode with Pat the NES punk, he smash a (supposedly real ) gold Nintendo World Championships (which was just a good repro). That episode was classic! It was fun reading through all the youtube comments where people thought he really did destroy a valuable piece of history despite showing the actual carts at the end. icemanxp300 #64 Posted May 14, 2016 $200 for a $30 Rob with a lamp on top. I'm in the wrong business. Maybe my spare Rob and spare power glove and spare..... you get the point will become lighted decoration.

What 3 bidders thought that was a good idea? Could be someone just wanted to play Mario 3 and it was cheaper than the $20+ dollars it usually sells for now. I bought a gold Majora's Mask hologram label with busted rear lid off eBay once. It was in worse condition than the Mario 3 in the link. I painted a gray cart back with Testor's Gold and gave it new life. It's close but not perfect match, with the original front shell a bit bronzier than the painted back. I guess I could have added a slight bit of bronze paint to the gold to get a better match, but it was close enough.
