cbmeeks #1 Posted May 12, 2016 Several years ago I received a PEB for free. It's in pretty good shape from what I remember but it's been sitting on my shelf for years. I think it has a power supply in it (can't remember) but nothing else. I thought about buying an F18a and putting it in one of my five TI's and then maybe using the PEB for something. Also, I have NO modern storage options or modern peripherals for the TI. Which is a shame. I do have the speech synthesizer. Any ideas on what to put in it? Is it even worth using in 2016? Thanks!
Omega-TI #2 Posted May 12, 2016 Any ideas on what to put in it? Is it even worth using in 2016? Is it even worth using in 2016? The answer to that question is very subjective, but since you ask this question in the TI-99/4A hobby forum, I think your answer will be slightly biased! Truthfully, that is a question you'll have to answer for yourself. If you have to ask the question, you may not think so... Worth can be calculated in many ways, a couple of examples: Cost to benefit ratio... (does this really apply to a hobby?) Enjoyment to cost ratio... (again subjective). From a personal perspective I've enjoyed finding new hardware items to attach to my TI. It's been a blast getting it to do things it was never envisioned to do. I also get pleasure from viewing photos of other peoples systems, seeing how they've expanded theirs, and the enjoyment that they've gotten along the way. I can tell you this, the TI was made for expanding, and there are so many different paths a person can take along the way. As for ideas to fill it, I always have them! cbmeeks #3 Posted May 12, 2016 Well, perhaps I set the wrong tone. The TI was my first computer. At the time, I dreamed of owning the PEB. I LOVE that classic look of the silver TI and that giant box. Hell, I can't even look at Bill Cosby without feeling nostalgic for my TI. So "worth" for me is a giant yes. Even for nostalgic reasons. So to revise my question, is there anything cool to put inside it? Anything modern to put inside it? Thanks

So to revise my question, is there anything cool to put inside it? Anything modern to put inside it? Thanks Oh! First computer, nostalgia, 'dreamed of owning', loving that classic look, okay... YOU'RE ONE OF US! Oh yes, there are LOT'S of things to go inside it! I have a small blog with entries of gadgets among other things that you might want to take a peek at. It'll give you a closer look at some of the items that are available and how to obtain them. << HERE >>. There are also new hardware items being release all the time as well as software. In my opinion THIS is the Golden Age for the TI, not 30 years ago.
cbmeeks #5 Posted May 12, 2016 That's a great resource. I would love to make my own carts too. Thanks!
Omega-TI #6 Posted May 12, 2016 That's a great resource. Thanks! Thanks. Most of the hardware related items (stuff to put in your PEB) are on page two & three. I hoping to do a new review on an item in a couple of weeks... as soon as I can get my paws on one. The item was slated to become available after this weekend, we'll see. I think my +1 was early enough to be near the top of the list.
S1500 #7 Posted May 12, 2016 One of my ideas I never got around to was taking a broken PEB, hollow it out & make it the ultimate retro case mod. You could even re-use the drive bay for an optical drive. But you know I'd get blasted by the community.

cbmeeks #9 Posted May 12, 2016 Yeah, not really a fan of modding retro hardware for new stuff. My only exception would be for things that are 100% reversible or things that replace RF for composite, etc.
