Spectravision vs. Spectravideo...

Recommended Posts

What's the scoop on Spectravision/Spectravideo games? If they are marked Spectravision does that mean they are NTSC format and when they are marked Spectravideo they are PAL? Are there some that may be marked Spectravideo and still be NTSC carts? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. A link to a page that explains all this would be outstanding!

Thanks,

Spectravision had to change their name to Spectravideo in 1982-83 to not be confused with a Hotel Entertainment Group (BTW they produced a hotel Atari 5200) that was named Spectravision. Some other companies did this to, like Arcadia/Starpath and their supercharger. They changed their name to Starpath because Emerson was releasing their console, the Arcadia 2001.

This isn't really going to help but just the brand SpectraVideo vs SpectraVision isn't enough to determine if a game is PAL or NTSC. I have PAL Planet Patrol's and Gangster Alley's with both SpectraVideo and SpectraVision labels.

It gets even more confusing than that, I have seen/own carts that have Spectravision cases but Spectravideo labels and vice versa.
