Sonic Adventure question

I have been looking at my Dreamcast memory cards. One thing that stands out is the Chao files. The one in Sonic Adventure 2 is almost 60 blocks big! My question is do I need those things there or can I delete them and open up space without affecting my progress through the game? I don't want to raise a Chao.
