zylon
Could it be? After 9 seasons, we still have an unplayed original game? Mountain King gets a long overdue run here in round 9. Play on default settings. Emulation is fine, as are custom controls. This is one of the 4 port only titles I believe. Not sure if a patched ROM is out there for 2-port decks. A8 port allowed for those players. Round ends Sunday, June 19th 2016 @ 9pm EST Current HSC record: None! Final scores: 172,290 Ballblazer +11+4=15 76,810 sdamon +10+5=15 30,760 darthkur +9 29,790 IICCEEMMAANN +8 24,360 roadrunner +7+3=10 7,690 jblenkle +6 2,450 zylon +5+1=6 1,090 RangerG +4+2=6 For a bonus, play any port of Mountain king: 2600, C64, Vic-20, etc. Points run from 5 to 1 if enough players. Ballblaɀer
This patched/hacked ROM should work for a 2-port BIOS. Is there a difference between the A8 and 5200 games? Mountain King (1984) (Sunrise Software) h1 (Two Port).zip

RangerG
I tried this one without the instructions. 5200=1090 and 2600=1475 To avoid being eaten by a spider and figure out what to do, I hope to read them tonight .

Ballblaɀer
172,790 (Atari 5200) I played Mountain King all the time as a kid -- easily one of my favorites. I couldn't pull it off this time around but I remember making a run through 8+ levels a few times as a kid. Probably with a little more practice I could do it again. I had a lower scoring run where I got to Level 7 and could very well have advanced further but, well, see how I died at the end. 25,025 (Atari 2600) This was a pretty cool piece of programming for the VCS, but jumping between ledges is maddening, and makes the jumping in the 5200 version seem like a breeze to me! zylon
Put in some token plays of 5200 and 2600. I'll stop short of saying it sucks, but it's definitely not for me. I was grateful to die and be done. 5200- 2450 2600- got 1350, but bumped the reset while reaching for the camera Edited June 20, 2016 by zylon
zylon
Round 9 ends with Ballblazer snagging a convincing win and 2nd in the bonus challenge, while the defending champ achieves the reverse for the same points. Still some good play as we reach the midpoint of the season. I've already set up round 10, so please continue... I'm also a fan of the game, but have never been very good at getting to the top before the music runs out or a bat gets me. Sorry your run ended with such a cheap death! Congrats on the dominating win this round!
Ballblaɀer
VERY nice score! I'm also a fan of the game, but have never been very good at getting to the top before the music runs out or a bat gets me. Sorry your run ended with such a cheap death! Congrats on the dominating win this round! Thanks -- too bad I couldn't make up any ground on your HSC lead! Even with a mastery of jumping and climbing it gets to be legit difficult to find (and grab, arrrghhh!) the Flame Spirit when the music time limit drops to 22s starting on Level 6. The short level time limit certainly doesn't help things, either... I look forward to a future HSC where we all play the "Who Turned Out The Lights?" game variation, haha.
