Retro-Bit Generations

Recommended Posts

Wait...

We Are providing: snes, genesis, nes gba and maybbe Jaguar.

Them I would think a mixture as Son Son never came out in those platforms

So Them I venture is the RetroBit guys themselves which may be providing actual "Arcade" emulated games (so there's some hope of an Arcade plug and play with HDMI support, if there are a few consoles exclusives in the mix so be it but no ports really)

Let's see how it evolves, maybe I jumped the gun. I thought you were speaking that all we're getting are "ports" instead you meant your company provides console games, you do not know what the rest is? Do you?

Well, to be fair, it's not going to hit the market for four more months. No one is going to be making any real buying decisions till then. RetroBit might even be fishing for some early feedback to see if they need to tweak it prior to release.

Son Son was ported to the Famicom, so if they count that as NES, it could be another home port. You can't assume off the bat that it's arcade because even Piko seems very unsure here. I hope we get more information.

Since they're supporting so many platforms, combined with HDMI out and a front-end interface, of course it's going to be running through emulation. I don't think anyone was under the impression otherwise.

But am I the only one that notices how the console looks like it used to have cartridge slots? It looks a hell of a lot like a Retro Duo and the back half on top reminds me of the GameFillip that had a flap covering a Famicom cart slot.

Just makes me wonder.

Well you guys got to understand that this product is not for the hardcore gamer. You guys probably already own all these titles whether in their console ports or an arcade here and there.

This is out to compete with th atgames cluster**** that is out there with the same 37 genesis games since like 2010.

Is for the causual gamer that recalls playing some of these retro titles.

Retro bit probably had other stuff in the pipes for the hardcore gamer like hdmi multi cartridge console or something ( I dont know).

Also, I am going to make sure to press them enough for these to not hit the clearance isle at all. (Not over sell massive amounts) clearance isles only damage the value of the Ips.

Clearance aisles and bargin bins are fun to dig through. It's like an instant micro-sized flea market!

Yep, and make making mistake cheap so that one does not feel too bad and doesn't harbor ill will on the manufacturer .... ahem!!!

Pay 60US$ to find it's utter garbage you may be "disappointed", pay 10US$ to find it's utter garbage you tell yourself you knew it all along and enjoy it for what it is if you can.

Case in point I recently purchased a Jakks pacific Atari paddle (deluxe edition, dual paddle) .... for 15US$ shipped ... I don't like it but chances are I wouldn't like those games on a real 2600, I will likely sell it again for 10US$ or 5U$ depending on chance and not feel too bad for the ~10US$ lost ... it's less than a ticket to a bad movie so it's alright.

Is this the collection of games that you got?

  • Super Breakout
  • Casino
  • Warlords
  • Steeple Chase
  • Nightdriver
  • Breakout
  • Canyon Bomber
  • Demon to Demand
  • Video Olympics
  • Pong
  • Arcade Warlords
  • Circus Atari
  • Streetracer

I remember Circus Atari and Night Driver being a lot of fun as a kid. And Warlords is awesome with multiple players.

Too bad the best paddle game Kaboom isn't on it.

I have the deluxe edition (2 paddles) here [which is just 4 or 5US$ more expensive]:

http://thegenericopinion.com/go_article/atarifb/jdp2600.html

wrt kaboom I can play the Atari XL/XE version so not a biggie for me.

Anyway I can't really play any of those games for more than 5 minutes (Warlord seems a lot of fun with 3 other friends but so are so many other games when played with friends, given the Arcade version is included the 2600 version is then just meh obviously).

My point being I bought it like 2 weeks ago, the novelty effect wore off in 30 mins or so .... but I didn't feel too bad as it was cheap enough that even if I resell it for just 5$, the 10$ "lost" are still worthy the price of admission .... granted if I could have play-tested it on a store I'd never have bought it .... but that is another story.

Honestly, the problem that I am seeing with these emulation boxes, is that various companies are building these boxes, putting their menus on them, tweaking the emulators, and not really pushing their improvements back to the emulator codebases...which negates the whole aspect about competition making things better, really...

Just makes me wonder.

I must just be on the same page here with StopDrop&Retro because at first I was thinking I know I have Son Son on Famicom, Then I thought that I saw a cartridge slot, or like it could flip open to reveal one. Then after he mentioned it, I see the resemblance to the Game Fillip, because I have one of those as well.

But I also completely agree with everyone else here that ARCADE ports would be very cool. Otherwise I'd likely just play it on the Retron 5 I already own. It would be very cool if they had at least Some Arcade versions of some games here. I think that would put it over the top for a lot of people.

I'm trying hard to not spend money unnecessarily these days, but even I gotta admit I'm generally a sucker for things like this...And $60 wouldn't be too bad...

I really wish they'd put their information somewhere other than Facebook (Maybe I should really look elsewhere before making that statement LOL)...But Facebook is an annoying website that really likes to block your view or time out if you're not a member making it nearly impossible to actually glean an ounce of information.

And as for me, "I just really don't want to get sucked into Facebook"...

facebook is like having a free website, complete with users ready to look at your product. but facebook is so 2010'ish now.

I personally don't do the facebook thing. Never have, never will. For the few instances I want to rip pictures or read something I have a set of tools that let me get past some of the blocks.

What an interesting left side item. Maybe it makes miniature pizzas?

You know what though this is the kind of thing I would buy for my kids though so they can play classics and I don't have to worry about them possibly roughing up some vintage items. Although my kids are older I still go into their rooms and see a plethora of game discs and movies strewed across the floors. It hurts when you substitute those 360 games and DVD's for lets say Saturn or Turbo CD, or Sega CD discs.

This still looks promising though.

Obviously it's a SNES multi-AV-out port, because that's the best way to get video from a shiny black plastic system that is pretending to be something else!

Just wanted to ask in case anyone can comment on it, is Nintendo's Mini-NES going to affect the launch plans of the Retro-Bit Generations in any way?

I know they have a different set of games but I assume this could make its launch harder to grab the attention of buyers. Plus you might not want to look like the cheap-o version of a big holiday seller. But I dunno, I'm not a marketing guy, I could be wrong.

Probably not the MSRP, but I'm very sure that retailers will have much more margin to wiggle on the RGB than the NES Mini. The Mini will probably be within $5 of its original price for a while, but the RGB I could see going for $40 on some kind of Madman Munson sale.
