CompyShop Archive?

Recommended Posts

Is there an archive of CompyShop mags and/or disks? (Don't even know if they had disk subscriptions.) As I understand it, ABBUC acquired the rights to CS properties, so thought it might be at ABBUC site. I'm a member, and found a number of articles, but no real archive. Of course, the language issue would be problematic for me, but thought it would be interesting to look through the mags.

Apropos Compyshop. Does someone know where to get installation instructions for the 256KB 130 XE memory expansion from Compyshop?

Checking these out (several), I find that SIDE A boots with the CompyShop screen (with or without BASIC), then seems to freeze with two colored dots near the top of the screen and some type of sound effect that looks to be locked in a loop. The B side appears to be a catalog of sorts. Are there some special requirements to get Side A to run? I've tried both XL and 800 OS, and both behave the same.

Well,

the Compyshop magazines can be found in the Abbuc PD library (since Compyshop declared them as being PD when they stopped publishing them). Afaik, they have not released all issues in the PD library right now, but they do own all issues for sure...

The Compyshop Magazine is often abbreviated as CSM, therefore you can find some copies here:

http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%203/CSM/index.html

and here: http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/Pooldisk/CD1/CSM/

Hmmm, I tested the CSM without Basic (Option pressed) on a Speedy 1050 and 800XL and they worked okay. Think the magazines support ultraspeed, not sure if this is for Speedy only or also works with Happy, USD and other ultraspeed drives. Maybe you can test side A with a normal 1050 or ultraspeed being switched off (unhappy mode, slow mode, etc.) ?!?

@JoSch: Have you tried Abbuc for an installation instruction of the 256k Compyshop 130XE memory expansion ?!? Or simply ask in the Abbuc forum...

I couldn't find anything, likewise on Abbuc.de.

I hadn't tried the Abbuc forum, yet, because I'm hanging around here .. ;-)

I'll try those, Roy. And also normal sio speed, Andreas, although I think I already did one that way. Puzzling!

Mystery solved, I think! Although the Side A of the disks will boot, they are in Sparta format (also BiboDos?). If I boot with SDX then I can access the files on Side A.
