mbd30 #3 Posted July 10, 2016 It's one of the greatest games ever. But why are SNES games so damn expensive?
Flojomojo #4 Posted July 10, 2016 What's it worth? It's worth playing on the New 3DS for ten bucks!

Punisher5.0 #6 Posted July 10, 2016 I bought a cart only on ebay about a year ago for $50. It's a great game that I have to get back into someday. I got stuck at some point and kind of slowly gave up after a couple of tries.

Flojomojo #9 Posted July 10, 2016 Because Nintendo.I'd say, because Nintendo collectors. Nintendo deserves credit for making it widely available to play on their Virtual Console. It's not as if they made it intentionally scarce.
Osgeld #10 Posted July 10, 2016 Nintendo deserves credit for double dipping, making it widely available to play on their Virtual Console cause they had no other games worth palaying on the current machines Fixed that for you
Flojomojo #11 Posted July 10, 2016 Yeah, whatever. It's been 25 years and I like their stuff, so I don't mind supporting them with a small amount of money.
+Trebor #12 Posted July 10, 2016 Worth $60? Absolutely! While other SNES classics such as Zelda appeared as earlier as 1991, it would not be until 1994 when we finally received Metroid and other greats like Mega Man X and Super Punch-Out!!. In 1991, I chose a Genesis over the SNES heavily due to Sonic (In lieu of not wanting 'another Mario' with prettier graphics at the time). Super Metroid was one of the reasons I was motivated in 1994 to purchase a SNES. P.S. Don't forget the map(s):
Black_Tiger #13 Posted July 10, 2016 The SNES version is actually selling on eBay for around $30 and the Super Famicom version can be had for $10 - $20.
icemanxp300 #14 Posted July 10, 2016 I should really play this. I loved the nes version but never played the snes one. Cart only is worth around $45-$55.
StopDrop&Retro #15 Posted July 10, 2016 Just get the Super Famicom version. It's exactly the same as the English version except it has the option for Japanese subtitles. Otherwise it's 100% in English.
Mayhem #16 Posted July 10, 2016 I bought my CIB SNES copy for $10 in 2002. Amazing how things have come...
NE146 #17 Posted July 10, 2016 Here's sort of an interesting story.. Around early summer 1994 I was in Japan shopping for video games and came across Super Metroid for the Super Famicom. the thing was all over the clearance bins everywhere for 9000 yen which was about 9 friggin bucks, and the game had pretty much just came out! Tthat price was too good to ignore so of course I bought it and forgot about getting the US version, I mean the game was literally hot off the Nintendo presses but it just goes to show you how little interest the japs had in it. icemanxp300 #22 Posted July 10, 2016 Damn. That was a good deal. Well it's a gamble. There is a reason it sold for like $37.xx instead of $50 Most people will pay a little more to guarantee no problems. That was a 0 feedback high risk buy w/1 poor picture. mikey.shake #23 Posted July 10, 2016 "... its weight in gold." A few months ago, I finally broke down to get a copy. I'd wanted it since '94 or so. Waited for a good deal, and just eventually broke down and bought one online. It was $55, which was a little cheaper than some of the others I'd seen. I'd checked every store in town for weeks, and it never turned up. My wife was encouraging, and I told her to make sure to forget its place at the top of my birthday wishlist. When it showed up, we spent about 3-4 days chipping away at it, with her assisting. I'd never played it beyond a few brief encounters in '94. I'd heard the hype in the intervening years. It was supposed to be godhead. It was. It didn't disappoint one bit. I'd played (and for the first time beat) the original Metroid to psych me up. So much atmosphere, action, design. Wow. We made it a chunk of the way through together, and had to go out of town for a while, so it got paused. We put it on hold, where it remains. I've been waiting to go back 'til I can really focus over a weekend and finish it. Two weeks later, she cracks and tells me she's so excited for my birthday present to arrive. Super Metroid. I looked at her, confused. "Are you just messing with me?" I asked. She looked back at me, her face more confused than mine. For some reason, she'd just blanked out. After mentioning it, she said she completely remembered... now. Rattled off a bunch of details, remembered getting stuck. Oh, well. Part of the reason she was so excited that she'd found it for $45, which was much lower than most of the other copies she'd been watching, and much lower than it tends to run here in town. So, yeah, $45-$55 is the going rate in our house, and a better deal than we've seen it for in the rest of New England. I ended up trading in the extra copy for a 5200 Competition Pro stick. It was a triple-happy birthday bonus.
