What is Super Metroid worth?

Recommended Posts

How often have any of you had to replace game save batteries in SNES carts? I did Super Mario World a few years ago, But the battery went dead already.:/

Popular games are always expensive. TMNT was also expensive on super nintendo. And I had sypro the dragon for playstation as a kid. Or teen rather. But lent it to a friend many moons ago and never got it back. Checked ebay and its expensive as hell.. PS2 versions were 10 or 15 BIN. But PS1 versions are bidding way higher. Popular games are always worth it. Even regular nintendo 8-bit I got Super Mario Brothers and Castlevania 1 + 2 + 3 each for 10 on ebay many years ago. Now each is 20+ at least and nothing cheaper. So that is how the market is.

The japanese version is only 35 bucks. And if you buy yourself a game genie for super nintendo you can play the japanese games with out modifying the super nintendo you have and cutting out the tabs from the cart slot. And its worth it because you can play many other jananese titles so it not a waste. And beats modifying the super nintendo.

If it costs $60 and you have never played it before, I'd say it's worth it. I've personally probably clocked well over a hundred hours into this game over the last couple of decades. It still holds up phenomenally well and is easily one of the best looking and most well-polished SNES games. It's much more varied than either Metroid that came before it, and I think most agree that it's still better than any Metroid that has come after (not to say those are bad, but that statement was more to emphasize how good this one is).

Of course, there are other price alternatives. If you have a Wii or Wii U, it's $10 or so there on the Virtual Console and looks and plays identical to the cart version. (If you don't have a Wii, you could probably nab a used one for sub-$50 and spend the difference on a VC copy of Super Metroid).

Just get the Super Famicom version. It's exactly the same as the English version except it has the option for Japanese subtitles. Otherwise it's 100% in English.

The US cartridge has the Japanese subtitles option as well, the two cartridges share the same ROM. This was common in the early NES era, but almost unheard of in the SNES era.

The answer to the OP's question : it is priceless. I wish more people in Japan and Nintendo thought so.

That's super annoying and has to be against eBay policy? These are eventually going to be mixed with real carts and these ones are almost worthless to a collector.

Annoying, indeed. It leads to apprehension and concern with purchasing "real" carts. I'm very glad I purchased all the SNES titles I was interested in acquiring many moons ago.

Some of these fakes look so close to the original; it's a lousy deal for the game player to end up with one, arguably worse for a collector to get tricked into buying one.

Fortunately with all the aforementioned listings, there is the stipulation: "NOTE: If the case does not fit your machine, please take out the pcb board and try, thanks." Hopefully, that is enough of a red flag for a purchaser to discern the item(s) not being 100% legit.

SNES stuff is at peak value right now. If you actually want to play these games instead of just posting pics of them online so you can show every one the size of your penis collection, I'd recommend getting a Japanese console. Most of these games are significantly cheaper if you're buying Japanese, especially the holy grails like Mega Man X3 and Earthbound, and most of them can be played without any knowledge of the language.

An American SNES can play Super Famicom games. It just needs a minor modification of the cartridge port.

But how can you tell its fake?

For the reasons others have already pointed out.

What is a USA localized game doing in China?

Why else would anyone say "NOTE: If the case does not fit your machine, please take out the pcb board and try, thanks."

The seller ONLY has high-value cartridges for sale, "brand new," including "Fix It Felix" in a weird not-Genesis cartridge housing. That was not a vintage game.

But how can you tell its fake?

Here's another way I can tell .. I asked them "is this an original cartridge from 1994?"

I got this back (in private email, not posted to the auction page):

Hello, Thank You for contacting us. Yes we are selling only reproduction.

These games are identical and playing well like an original! Yes you will

get as described, may some stickers can be different, but it's same game

what you bought. We hope helped to You.

Have a great day!

Best regards

This is why sellers on eBay have started to post photos of the inside of the SNES cart being sold, to prove it's genuine.
