Milli V #1 Posted July 12, 2016 I am stumped. I have a drive I am refurbing - It was very dirty inside and out - I have stripped it down almost completely and cleaned all connectors and parts, cleaned the drive head many times and yet when I do a directory on a known good disk in CPM the head seeks to the right track and then just goes back and forth- eventually giving me a missing block error (also happens when I format a disk or copy to a disk). I tried aligning the head and it made no difference. I have swapped the mech to a known good drive and the issue followed it so it is not the adam controller board (though could be the read write head controller board, I didn't swap that- yet). Anyone have any clues? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxtHJWot1xc&feature=youtu.be
NIAD #2 Posted July 12, 2016 I was about to say to adjust the variable capacitor in small increments on the left side/middle of the bottom controller board while loading Disk Manager (the program included with the disk drive), but it sounds like you did this already. I would suggest sending Geoff Oltmans a PM on here to see if he can point you in the right direction.
Milli V #3 Posted July 12, 2016 I tried the brute force adjustment - move the stepper motor I'll give this a try
Milli V #4 Posted July 12, 2016 Bottom controller board? Not The one on the drive?
adamcon #5 Posted July 12, 2016 Bottom controller board? Not The one on the drive? Yes, there are actually 3 small adjustable capacitors on the bottom controller board. Appears that onnly the one may be out of whack??????
NIAD #6 Posted July 12, 2016 Yes, the bottom controller board that was made by Coleco. I posted a thread years ago on here with pics and details... think it was called "Adam Maintenance". Also, in the NIAD newsletters, there are a large number of articles throughout the years that deal with repairs and maintenance.
