robc
Hi Folks! I've posted this here in the Websites forum rather than the 8-bit or Vintage Computer forums simply because I think it's a better fit. If it's not? Then do let me know so I can correct things Anyway, what I'm showing here is my channel with my "Rob Plays" series of gameplays and reviews. Whilst I focusing on the C64 (as that's where my experience from lies), I also cover other machines where I can - includes the ZX Spectrum, the Amiga, the Atari 8-bits, as well as the Commodore Plus/4. Videos are captured off PAL spec hardware (and yes, they are at 50fps if you can play them there - except for early ones where I was emulating) - and I try to be more informed when it comes to a game, as I think it's important to show a game off in its best light Some recent videos of interest would be my look at the Atari 8-bit conversion of Space Harrier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2ht8p4rwks Along with my review of Ultima I on the C64: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V95XWpUxzCw All the Atari 8-bit episodes I've done so far can be found on the following playlist, and if you want to check out the rest of the channel, you can visit over at: http://YouTube.com/hellfire64 Hope you all dig 'em (and I'd love to chat with folks who can appreciate these gems too!) - R

robc
This channel RULES. I'm really enjoying it. I'm glad you appreciate 'em Chris. Means the world! Meanwhile, I normally post new videos on Friday (lunchtime in Australia) - but as I'm rather busy this week (taking a project of mine to a convention), I'm posting this one a little earlier - a look at the C64 conversion of Incentive's Driller (aka Space Station Oblivion in the US as distributed by Epyx). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdAYqdqzSOY It's not the flashiest looking game out there (and truth be told the C64 struggles with it a lot), but it's one of those games which for me oozes atmosphere which wasn't that common back then.
davidmt
Just one more acknowledgement that Rob has a great YT channel -- very enjoyable and informative! He will cover some of the "well known" classics, but also many of the lesser known titles that you may have only heard about and never actually seen in action (well, that is my experience anyway, coming from a US perspective). Nice to see you here Rob, excellent channel.

Nice to see you here Rob, excellent channel. Thanks. New week, so it's another vid, and this time, I get to do a bit of local flag-waving (ish), as it's a look at "Demon Stalkers", which besides being developed in Australia, is also a rad expansion of the concepts in Gauntlet (and by extension Dandy). Quite dug this one a lot when covering it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FrrCBFoWbA (Sorry it's a tad long… but really, there's a lot to this one, and as it's not talked about that often, well… I thought it was worth showing as much as I could…)
Chris++
I love this game. It's my favorite Gauntlet (including Gauntlet). I bought it in the mid-'90s and loved all of the original twists. I can still beat it!
robc
I love this game. It's my favorite Gauntlet (including Gauntlet). I bought it in the mid-'90s and loved all of the original twists. I can still beat it! It adds a lot more to it, and I'm loving the result. I think I have to go back and see if I can get past level 8 and continue on… I am so thankful they added a save game option there. Maybe then I can go tackle Fire King (if I do ever track a copy down). Glad you dug this one!
robc
Some thrills and spills of a racing variety this week - as I fired up the C64 conversion of Scalextric (which was released in the US without the license as the sort of unimaginative Slot Car Racer). It's no Pitstop II (or Racing Destruction Set), but there's fun to be had with building your own tricky courses and racing around 'em with a friend! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obH9nWSCGvY PS: As a bit of a bonus, I posted a second vid this week - a look at Penetrator, the early Melbourne House developed Scramble clone on the humble ZX Spectrum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXEm6Bax_hM
robc
With all the fun of C64 Month going on right now, I thought I just had to look at a recent C64 release this week - and by gum, what a heck of a release it is! Barnsley Badger may not push lots of fancy multicoloured sprites around the place - but it's great to see a modern day throwback to ye olde C64 Platforming classics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9nzSNvsTtA
robc
C64 Month continues, and this week, I decided to go back and review one of those more fondly remembered games from my childhood - the conversion of Turbo Out Run. Is this a racer which continues to rate highly after all this time? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jARSxulfD8I
robc
Two more to round-out C64 Month: Another new release in Maze of the Mummy, and finally one of the most exciting releases (at least to me at the time), a C64 conversion of Prince of Persia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PWizne1-Xo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdoHUcILhy4
robc
Oh boy. I've been a tad lax here - but that's all good, because there's plenty of episodes to catch up on - especially as it's SHMUPtember! To open with, a head-to-head comparison of the Australian developed Bedlam on the C64 and Spectrum! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccoTeL-PoCs That's followed up by the oldie, but superb Deathchase again on the Spectrum (hey, I got RGB capture working, I couldn't help but do a couple of episodes from it). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoUwwTcQ30E After that, we get some Atari 8-bit action happening with The Tail of Beta Lyrae (ps. I show the intro in full at the end of the episode. Yes, it's 5 minutes long!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2lOpQ5-CEg Then to bring y'all up to date, the new A8 hotness of Atariblast! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5n_3jg6PlA phew
robc
Another week down… and instead of something on Atari Computers… we get a conversion of a game by Atari Games, in the tank'em up Vindicators (also one of the few games primarily developed for the infamous C64GS). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm6Aov2pRb0
robc
My latest episode brings a close to the frantic shmuppy antics of Shmuptember, at least in the only way I know how: by introducing a new platform for coverage. This time it's the MSX, and it's conversion of Namco's arcade shmup Bosconian. Coming along for the ride are the C64 and Spectrum adaptations (or remixes I suppose). At least one version is utterly ghastly. I'll let you pick which one it was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwuQBqp7yr0 Edited October 1, 2016 by robc
robc
Got a bit of a quick one for this week - firing up the C64, and having a quick spin of recent release of the Mikie-inspired My Life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7TdVO3AsB0
robc
Here's the most recent episodes!Firstly a look at the (somewhat sluggish) C64 conversion of the legendary Karateka - unsurprisingly 'tis a bit of a slow burn, but the cinematic influence certainly shines through https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83OfTIfdygg And last week, was something a little closer to being on topic, and that's the Atari 8-bit conversion of Joust (which was kind of a special request… courtesy of a friend who very kindly passed the cart onto me)! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7MsR9rn-aA
