STart magazine A8 software ?

Recommended Posts

Hmmm,

while searching for some A8 programs that appeared in STart magazine, I found several websites that had the STart magazine either as JPG or as PDF online. Alas, while the articles are there, most of the programs in form of downloadable software seems to be missing...

So, does anyone have (all?) the A8 programs from STart magazine Vol. 5 issue 2 - until Vol. 5 issue 7 and may upload them here? (Think these were the only STart mags with A8 programs on them.)

Sidenote: I already found http://www.atarimagazines.com/index/startissues.php

but alas, most of the programs are not available for download there...

I don't think they are there. If I remember right, the eight-bit stuff were not included on the ST disks. There is a small chance I am wrong. If somebody can load the disk images in an ST emulator than we could verify it. I have my doubts though because we would have gotten them off the disks and made seperate download links when we HTMLed the magazines many years ago.

If we are referring to the last few issues of Start (where Antic was rollled up into that magazine), the software was on 3.5" floppies to be read on the ST. You needed a special cable or null modem setup to transfer the 8-bit software over to the machine from the ST.

I've been working on the October 1990 issue of the Antic section. They are all done (I know some were already done) except for Kung Fu Master which I am working on today. When I'm done (hopefully tomorrow) I will post the whole disk.

In the last issue of STart they said they were working on putting together a disk with all the 8-bit software on it from October 1990 to the last issue. I am assuming it never got finished. So we are going to have to type these all if we want to try them.

Next issue for me is Feb/March 1991. This one only has two programs and one I found at Atari_Online.PL.

Your welcome. If anybody doesn't feel like typing but doesn't mind Internet sleuthing, it would be great if you look at the Start 8-bit sections of the issues I haven't done yet and see if you can hunt down any of the missing programs in the Net. With the issues I did I was able to find at least a third of the programs in different places.

I finished Head'em Off today, so I just have Ramdisk Handler to do to finish this issue. Lots of Data statements. :( Luckily it's just a little over one page.

Next up is the January 1991 issue with a whopping two programs. I found the larger of the two on the Web so I only have one to type in.

Next up is the last issue not done, Vol. 5, No. 3, November, 1990 with four programs. The smallest one is already done which leaves three. This one is going to take a while. They are big with one of them being a full two pages.

Did a little more internet searching and found two of the three remaining programs. :) Now there is only one more program to type in. It'a about a page long. It's called Windows on Your Atari. I should be able to finish it before the weekend is over.
