mr_me #1 Posted July 28, 2016 http://simonhutchinson.com/2016/02/06/midi-controlled-intellivoice-synth/ Its not much but it is something to hear the intellivoice talk without an intellivision. I think he wanted to turn it into an instrument but the voice chip doesn't quite work the way he hoped.
mthompson #2 Posted July 28, 2016 Still kind of cool, though. Thanks for the link.
+freewheel #3 Posted July 29, 2016 LOL. I basically did that with the music keyboard and a quick IntyBASIC program that uses the available speech on the Intellivoice. I should share that program someday. What's weird is the voice he's using. It doesn't sound like the stock voices. I think he's pitch-shifted them and run a few other effects. He's not using the intellivoice filter/amp for whatever reason. Not sure if thats how the voice sounds coming directly from the chip.
+GroovyBee #5 Posted July 29, 2016 Its a microcontroller controlled SP0256 (speech chip) housed in an Intellivoice case .
+freewheel #6 Posted July 30, 2016 So he's NOT using an Intellivoice?
mr_me #7 Posted July 30, 2016 He's using the intellivoice sp0256 but not the buffer, filter, or amp chips. He still has to convert the chip output to normal audio. I think he could have interfaced the microcontroller to the cartridge port. Anyone know if its possible to interupt the intellivoice mid phrase. Well, possibly not in their built in phrases like "Mattel Electronics Presents" (not sure how those are built up). But everything else is just allophones so it's easy to program in stutter-speak if you want. Neat project, but this is more like using a SID. I wouldn't call that using a C64, it's just one of the chips. Oddly, I think the speech sounds BETTER than from the Intellivoice, which gives me ideas...
