Just snagged a boxed Cakewalk!

Recommended Posts

Nice one Cassidy, sometimes I really don't understand Marco when it comes to pricing his auctions though.

Boxed BBSB - $750.00

Boxed Cakewalk - $150.00

WTF ? :?

Hm, you're questioning my valuations? For how long have you been collecting??

Three weeks before my boxed BBSB went up for auction, a loose one sold in the $600s. So I took a shot and got lucky.

This boxed Cakewalk was PAL, not NTSC. They pop up on eBay Germany from time to time. This one was in nice condition and complete, so the price was about right, I'd say.

Just a matter of doing your homework

Cheers,

Marco

There was no loose one for $600.00 you're mistaken, a sealed one sold for around $350.00 though. ;)

I guarantee you that you could have sold the box alone for $150.00 !

There were two loose ones auctioned off close together, the highest was $393 cart only! I have not seen a $600 cart only BBSB either.

Looking back I think that $350 sealed copy was a steal. FND won that one didn't he? I wonder if he opened it! :ponder:

Rick and I have kept a very close watch on eBay the past couple of months to see what certain games are worth. But we're only human, and if you say we did not see a loose BBSB go for $600+, we were just very lucky. And I guess it would also just prove that what a game sells for one month, it will not necessarily sell for again in the next.

The PAL box is not like the NTSC box, so you picky NTSC collectors would probably have sniffed at this tall PAL box with German stickers and manual...

Marco

I have both the PAL and NTSC Cakewalks boxed and they are both the same size, only differance I can see are the stickers, are you sure there are two types maybe at one time they used the same type and then changed the style later or maybe I was sold a PAL box with an NTSC game inside? The size does matches the other three NTSC CommaVid boxes I have though.

I have never held an NTSC Cakewalk box in my hands, but I just assumed that all American relase boxes were smaller, just like the American Cosmic Swarm and Room of Doom that I have.

Marco

I've never held an NTSC Cakewalk box in my hands either. I have a boxed NTSC Stronghold, however, and its box is the same standard size as most other Atari 2600 game boxes. Since Cakewalk and Stronghold were released at roughly the same time, I assume that the NTSC box for Cakewalk is the same size as the Stronghold box -- larger than the box for Cosmic Swarm.

Of course, I'd much rather KNOW than assume. Come on, now. Somebody on this board has to own it. Let's hear from you!

FND: Which NTSC Commavid boxes do you have that are the same size as a standard Atari brand game box? My Room of Doom and Cosmic Swarm are the short boxes. How tall is your Mines of Minos box?

I didn't just comment on that out of nowhere, I have the complete CommaVid collection mint in the box.

Only Mines Of Minos and Cosmic Swarm are in short boxes, the rest are exactly the same size as a normal Atari box. :D

You meant your Room of Doom is in a small box and NOT Mines of Minos, right? At least, that's the way it looks in your pic.

I have Cakewalk, Stronghold and Mines of Minos in the taller boxes and the Cosmic Swarm in the smaller style (all NTSC) just like the ones pictured above in that mighty impressive collection that I will probably never be able to complete

 Just go to the source directly and pull your wallet. Some things are only a matter of money...

CPU,

Is that a repro box for the Video Life? I have only ever seen one real one (please don't be offended, just wondering). Mighty fine looking shot there. You and Joe Santulli are about the only two I know with all of them boxed. A few even looked sealed?

Great stuff...

Cassidy

there is also a larger box version of cosmic swarm with different box artwork. this was more commonly found in europe, but i have found one in the US without any PAL stickers and it contained a NTSC cart. has anyone else found this larger box for cosmic swarm in the US?

It's very real and very expensive, I know a couple more people who have one mint in the box.
