Brad2600 #1 Posted April 30, 2003 Just wondering. Haven't seen many replies to my INTV related posts. I dunno. I just became the owner of one yesterday. There needs to be a forum that discusses INTV related stuff..possibly on the INTV sites. Oh well.
Vic George 2K3 #2 Posted April 30, 2003 I don't hate the Intellivision. I'm just not a very big fan of the system like I am with the Atari 2600 and the ColecoVision.
Witchfynde #3 Posted April 30, 2003 I don't. I used to play it at a Sears display and at a couple of friends' houses.
Room 34 #4 Posted April 30, 2003 It's fine, but I don't like the controllers, and I don't think it lives up to the George Plimpton hype it got back in the day. I think its biggest problem is the gameplay... all of the games seem really SLOOOOW to me.
Hydian #5 Posted April 30, 2003 I have one and a bunch of games, but don't know enough about them in general to really respond to threads about them. I do need to pick up the dungeons and dragons games sooner or later, but other than that I couldn't tell you too much about the system.
dougy76 #6 Posted April 30, 2003 Just wondering. Haven't seen many replies to my INTV related posts. I dunno. I just became the owner of one yesterday. There needs to be a forum that discusses INTV related stuff..possibly on the INTV sites. Oh well. I *love* the Intellivision. Took me a little while to get used to the controllers, but I play it as much as I play any classic system. Tron: Deadly Discs, AD&D, Thin Ice, Burgertime, Snafu, Ice Trek, Dragonfire, Microsurgeon, Happy Trails, are some of my favorites. Most of these games you can't play on other systems, so I think the INTV is a *must have* system. This is also the only system that my wife actually *likes* playing with me so there's another reason I like it.
BIG EARL #7 Posted April 30, 2003 The Intellivision would be the only game system I would own, if the controllers wouldent wear out so easily. I have 3 Intellivisions and none of the controllers work. I even bought the replacement boards several times to fix my controllers but those would wear out even faster. I just wish someone would make a really good replacemnet controller out of a Jaguar controller or something. Another thing is that I think INTV stuff is hard to find. In the year I have been collecting video game stuff, I have only seen 3 or 4 carts in the wild and no other Intellivision stuff.
sku_u #8 Posted April 30, 2003 I don't dislike it, but the only Intellivision games I have access to are the games that are on the PSX Intellivision collection.
Brad2600 #9 Posted April 30, 2003 I found an INTVII and a couple of games back in '96 but foolishly threw it away and kept the games. I miss the INTVII because of the detachable joysticks. I do love the design of the original INTV though. I have 2 carts that don't work and I am still getting more INTV games. I'm going for boxed games as they seem cheap and plentiful on EBay. It's a nice system and fun to compare certain games across systems.
Room 34 #10 Posted April 30, 2003 Burgertime on the Inty is great... Pretty much the only game I ever play on it, so I just keep it plugged into the cartridge slot at all times!
Witchfynde #11 Posted April 30, 2003 I think its biggest problem is the gameplay... all of the games seem really SLOOOOW to me. That's because the Intellivision wasn't built for speed. Better graphics and more memory than the 2600, yeah, but speed, hell no! BTW, for the person who listed Thin Ice on here, what do you do in that game? I'm not familiar with it, this is the first time I've ever heard of it (I don't know a whole lot about Int. though).
Room 34 #12 Posted April 30, 2003 All style and no substance. It is just excruciating for me to play a lot of Intellivision games. Especially Night Stalker and Space Armada. They are great concepts and great looking games, I just.... wish.... things..... would... move....... faster......!
DaveAtari #13 Posted April 30, 2003 If you play Atari, you're a moron God, I hated that guy
Witchfynde #14 Posted April 30, 2003 If you play Atari, you're a moron God, I hated that guy It was a pretty sweet revenge when, years later, in the movie Good Will Hunting, Matt Damon called him gay (which I mean no offense to gay people, but the way Plimpton reacted was funny as anything)

hepcat #16 Posted April 30, 2003 I like the 2600 much better, but Burgertime alone is reason enough to own an Intellivision. --Jason
King Atari #17 Posted April 30, 2003 It's an okay system, but the 2600 kills it. The graphics and sound may be better, but the gameplay is where it counts, and there are very few INTV games that I really like in that department. There are some decent ports, the graphics are nice and colorful, but other than that, there's not very many reasons for me to play it. The only games I really play are Pac-Man, Slam Dunk Super Pro Basketball, Thin Ice, and (on emulator) Commando (which is my favorite INTV game, btw). Compare Star Wars: The Empire Strikes BAck on both the 2600 and the INTV. The 2600 looks slightly blockier, but controls smoothly, and gameplay is exceptional. The Walkers look better to me on the 2600, actually. The INTV version is slow, dull, and not very compelling (though I'd still love a copy just to have a version for the system). INTV Donkey Kong is worse than the 2600 Donkey Kong by far, yet some INTV lovers (who probably swear by Plimpton and worship him as some sort of god) insist the INTV is superior in every way (I kid you not!). I need to write a revised article for Atarinvader on the subject of who won. Both systems have their good and bad, but overall, the 2600 is the clear winner. jsoper #19 Posted April 30, 2003 To me, the intv (as well as the 5200 and 7800) are controller-project systems: They don't become a whole lot of fun until you build an adapter to use genesis/2600 controllers.
Numan #20 Posted April 30, 2003 Kepone, you say you want to talk about the INTV, but then you did not give me props on hitting the 4-6-7-10 spare in Bowling. Our family bought the INTV instead of the Atari 2600. Having used the controllers at an early age, I have no problem using them. The 2600-INTV debate is similar to the PSX-N64 debate. The latter systems were the better systems based on graphics, etc., but lacked the sheer numbers of the other systems. Both systems had their share of poor games, but the % was greater for the INTV b/c of the low total number of games. Sports = Advantage Intellivision Arcade= Advantage 2600 Library= Advantage 2600 Graphics= Advantage Intellivision Speed= Advantage Atari RPGs= Even Strategy= Advantage Intellivision Peripherals= Even
shep #21 Posted April 30, 2003 You also have to remember this is mainly an Atari related forum, and the classic gaming section is here almost as a little something extra, nothing big, at least thats what the extra sections seem to me
SS #22 Posted April 30, 2003 I hate Intellivision. So there.
Brad2600 #23 Posted April 30, 2003 Kepone, you say you want to talk about the INTV, but then you did not give me props on hitting the 4-6-7-10 spare in Bowling. I may have overlooked that. As for this being the classic gaming forum, I can understand. I just wondered what people thought about the INTV in general.
ubersaurus #24 Posted April 30, 2003 Oh hell no..I love the INTV. It has alot of sweet games, including exclusives like Diner, and versions superior to their atari counterparts like Burgertime, Pac-Man, Beamrider, River Raid...the controllers aren't really an issue for me. That system is hooked up as often as my atari consoles are, just for those reasons.
dougy76 #25 Posted April 30, 2003 BTW, for the person who listed Thin Ice on here, what do you do in that game? I'm not familiar with it, this is the first time I've ever heard of it (I don't know a whole lot about Int. though). In Thin Ice you are a penguin and the object is to skate around these dudes carving up the ice so that they sink into the water when you make a complete square. That's basically it, but it's pretty challenging. There is also an evil seal that chases you around, but you can sink him also if you're quick enough to carve out a square around him.
